Daily Prayer

Please set aside time each day to pray for 2-3 minutes. This week's prayer starter is:

" God, when I come into your house, it so much easier to feel your presence and to know you are near.  When I go about my everyday life, there are far more moments when I don't think about you than I care to admit..."

Welcome Our New Organist
Spencer R. Koger

This Sunday, April 8, organist  Spencer R. Koger will be playing during our 10am worship service. He will play on periodic Sundays thereafter.
Spencer is a college freshman at Christopher Newport University. He has a double-major in both Neuroscience and Political Science with a minor in Leadership Studies.
He has been practicing the pipe organ for over 3 and a half years with an extensive piano career lasting over 12 years.
He is a graduate of Bassett High school where he received an advanced diploma. Additionally, he is a graduate of Patrick Henry Community College where he received his Associates Degree in General Studies while in high school. He is actively involved on campus, being a part of the Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity, Campus Activities Board, and a Student Ambassador within the Admissions Office.
He has worked intensively to progress his music studies on both the piano and pipe organ but prefers to continue extensive training towards the organ. He plans on receiving his certificates from the American Guild of Organists, in both Church Music and Performance, by the time he graduates from Christopher Newport University.
Spencer is thankful for the many years of hard work and dedication put into his training from his piano teacher, Claudia S. Deans, and his two organ teachers, Peter Ramsey and Kevin Kwan. He thanks his parents, family, and friends for always supporting his decisions and endeavors and thanks God for giving him the ability to provide music for worship and praise.
Spencer can reached by email at
Bring Your Instruments
2nd Sundays

This Sunday, April 8, gather in the sanctuary about 9:45 with your guitars, or other C instruments, and jam along to a variety of tunes new and old.  This is an opportunity for folks to express themselves musically through their instruments.  Even if you can only play 3 chords on the guitar, come and join us.  The more, the merrier.  We also have hand percussion instruments and a drum kit if you are so inclined. The music will be out on music stands. I look forward to seeing you! - Nellwyn Beamon
Fanny Crosby: Legendary Methodist Hymn Writer

Fanny Crosby
Legendary Methodist Hymn Writer

The favorite hymn " Blessed Assurance " is one of more than 8,000 penned by a blind, musical visionary.  Fanny Crosby's  songs are favorites in the United Methodist Hymnal . The  Rev. Alfred Day  of the  General Commission on Archives and History  tells us why the life story of this 19th century poet is as inspiring as the words we sing today.

All are welcome to join our Ghent UMC choir. Rehearsals are in the sanctuary - Sundays at 9:30a.m. and Wednesdays 7-8p.m.  All are welcome to come.

For more info, please contact the Director of Music Ministry.

Also, you can email the organist by clicking here.

General Fund Pledging
for 2018

Thanks to everyone who has pledged or already given!

$151,290 has been pledged so far, but we need to reach, at least, $155,940 to meet our budgeting goals.

As I'm sure you know, this new chapter in the life of Ghent Church is refreshing. But, it needs your financial support. Please pray for God's guidance about your annual giving. Place your pledge card in the offering plate.

Sanctuary Campaign
Our pledge goal of $60,000 for sanctuary renovations and repairs has been met. Thank you to everyone for helping us to meet this goal. Please send in all pledge donations by August 31, 2018.
