Daily Prayer

Please set aside time each day to pray for 2-3 minutes. This week's prayer starter is:

" Sometimes I am afraid to approach you, Lord.  I'm afraid to share with you my struggles, my concerns, my pleas...  If I approach, I am afraid of what You might see.  I'm afraid to ask because I may not like the answer.  Help me to approach You anyway with an honest heart..."

Happy Mother's Day
Sunday, May 13

Come join us for worship on Mothers Day, May 13 as we celebrate the women who have influenced our lives in so many ways.
Gathering Jam
Meet Our Growers

This Sunday, May 13, gather in the sanctuary about 9:45am with your guitars, or other C instruments, and jam along to a variety of tunes new and old.  This is an opportunity for folks to express themselves musically through their instruments.  Even if you can only play 3 chords on the guitar, come and join us.  The more, the merrier.  We also have hand percussion instruments and a drum kit if you are so inclined. The music will be out on music stands. I look forward to seeing you!  - Nellwyn Beamon
Book Sale and Parking Lot Fundraiser
SGAF Outreach

During the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival, GUMC will have its Used Book Sale on Saturday, May 19, 10am to 5pm. The sale will be on our front porch and in the sanctuary lobby. Hardcovers $1.50; Paperbacks 75 cents.

GUMC also needs book donations to make this effort successful. Please put all books into the sanctuary lobby's closet.

We will also host paid parking on Saturday and Sunday.  Volunteers are needed for both efforts.   Proceeds benefit missions and church programs.

Music Notes
Nellwyn Beamon, Music Director

The choir will take hiatus after Memorial Day weekend and will start back up after Labor Day.  Take this summer to think about making a commitment to our music program in some way.

We will continue the Gathering Jam on 2nd Sundays.  If you play an instrument, bring it and play along during the gathering part of our Sunday morning service.

Back by popular demand is our Pick-Up Choir on the last Sundays of June, July, and August.  Just come a bit early that morning to run through the anthem and sing!

During Lemonade and Hymns from 7 to 8 PM on June 20, July 25, and August 22, we will set up a keyboard on the front porch and sing.  W e will serve lemonade and welcome our neighbors.  Those front doors can be awfully imposing.  Let's make them less so by our presence out front.

Musicians Wanted If you are involved with music outside of the church, I would love to showcase you during worship.  I t'd be nice to have different kinds of musical offerings.   Please don't be shy.

Is there a hymn you want to sing?  There is a Suggestion Box next to the piano. Make a note and I will try to program it.

To learn more, see the flyer on the bulletin board or talk with Nellwyn.

All are welcome to join our Ghent UMC choir. Rehearsals are in the sanctuary - Sundays at 9:30a.m. and Wednesdays 7-8p.m. Last choir practice for the season is May 23.

For more info, please contact the Director of Music Ministry.

General Fund Pledging
for 2018

Thanks to everyone who has pledged or already given!

$151,290 has been pledged so far, but we need to reach, at least, $155,940 to meet our budgeting goals.

As I'm sure you know, this new chapter in the life of Ghent Church is refreshing. But, it needs your financial support. Please pray for God's guidance about your annual giving. Place your pledge card in the offering plate.

Sanctuary Campaign
Our pledge goal of $60,000 for sanctuary renovations and repairs has been met. Thank you to everyone for helping us to meet this goal. Please send in all pledge donations by August 31, 2018.

May is Mental Health Month
At Ghent UMC

Please join us throughout the month of May as we seek to grow, learn, and love others as Jesus taught.  We invite you to use the GUMC resources this month to learn more about mental health and substance use issues to help raise awareness and change negative attitudes in our community.  We will also post daily prayers on our Social Media channels.

God asks us to be faithful, to love one another, to reach out to those who are broken and to seek justice for all God's people.
