Have you ever tried an eConsult?

The co-chairs of the GBPCA have been working with Shelley Brown, Practice Management Consultant at OntarioMD to help providers understand the benefits of signing up for eConsult . Shelley has presented at a previous PCA meeting but is more than willing to come to your office.

eConsult allows you to send a secure electronic consultation regarding a problem to a specialist in our region or to any region in Ontario of your choosing.

The benefits of eConsult are to get your answer to a consultation question in a rapid manner which in turn may avoid the patient waiting for and/or needing an in person consultation with a specialist or assistance in managing their care until their appointment. Average response time for eConsult is 2.4 days. However, the fastest eConsult has been in 4 minutes. Regions that have used eConsult have shown up to a 40% reduction in the need for "in" person consults thus decreasing the wait time for specialists. There are 41 specialists in our region (LHIN 2) using eConsult and more coming on everyday. If there is a specialist you would like to see on eConsult, please let Shelley know and she can approach them to come onboard.

Family Physicians can bill OHIP for the eConsultation (K738) ($16.00 ) and specialist bill OHIP on a time interval. The sign up process is quite simple and Shelley has done her best to make it easy for all physicians to be signed up.

Please email Dr. Keith Dyke at or Shelley Brown at [email protected] [email protected] for more information .
