GROUNDING

Houses have grounding wires connected to outlets and fixtures, but the house itself is not grounded well to protect it against lightning strikes.

Standard residential construction usually only has a small bar, if any at all, at roof level, with a single thin grounding wire running to the surface, where it is connected to the ground. This is not enough to handle an area prone to lightning strikes.

If you are in one of these areas, you should consider further grounding your home  to keep electricity from running in through the wiring and frying your electronics equipment.

Grounding and Bonding Your Home!
Why Do We Need Electrical Grounding, Ground Rods, Earthing, Bonding in Electrical Wiring Systems?

The grounding system at a building provides an easy path for electricity to flow to earth should certain problems occur (a power surge, lightning strike).

Bonding or connection in the electrical panel between the neutral wires, ground wires, and the utility company's incoming neutral wire allowing current to flow to the utility company's wiring, assuring that a circuit breaker will trip or fuse will blow should a problem occur such as a short circuit or overloaded circuit.
