Glow Gala 2016: Planting a Legacy

Glow Gala 2016 is around the corner and Groundwork Lawrence is excited to engage supporters in a celebration of 15 years of our mission and programming! On November 17th from 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm on the third floor of the Everett Mill in Lawrence, join us for an evening of fun featuring auctions, raffles, delicious food, and a presentation from our Green Team youth. Purchase tickets here!

One crowd favorite during each Glow Gala is our Eco-Art Auction which features eco-friendly art submitted by local artists. Each artist must incorporate one of the "4 R's" in their work (reduce, reuse, recycle or repair) and the art must incorporate at least one of the following themes: promotes environmental awareness, educates others about environmental injustice, or is comprised of environmentally-friendly materials.

We are currently looking for artists to submit their version of Eco-Art to our gala! You can find information on our website here , including instructions and submission forms. We look forward to seeing your works of art!

Glow Gala is sponsored in part by lead sponsor, New Balance Foundation.

15th Annual Spicket River Cleanup a Major Success!

Thank you to all our supporters for making our 15th Annual Spicket River Cleanup a great success. We had 480 volunteers, many of them youth representing local schools, and others from local businesses and community organizations.

Thank you to our sponsors:  Enel Green Power North America, the City of Lawrence, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Woodard & Curran, Winn Companies, Lawrence General Hospital, Rumbo, Covanta Energy, Royal Screen Printing, and Farmer Dave's.

With the water levels low in the Spicket our cleaning efforts had many rewards. We removed 250 tires, which is enough for 62 cars or 13 semi-trailer trucks! Additionally, we estimate that volunteers cleared 10 tons of debris from the river, river banks and adjacent parks. We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our volunteers and staff.
Celebrate Food Day with us Oct. 26-29!

We love  fresh, local food so much, why just celebrate on one day? Food Day is a time to come together to celebrate food, resolve to make changes in our own diets, and to take action to push for improved food policies.
At Groundwork Lawrence, we plan to celebrate food day all week at our local farmers markets on Wednesday, October 26; Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29.

Our healthy food programming is funded in part by the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and Bank of America Foundation. Thanks to their generous support, we have been able to help people change their diets and increase access to fresh, locally grown food through our cooking classes, shopping tours, our community garden network, Costello Urban Farm and GWL Farmers Markets.
Non-Toxic Samples available at Farmers Markets and Local Bodegas

We were recently awarded a grant from the Toxics Use Reduction Institute, UMass Lowell to reduce the use of toxics in our community.  With this grant we will be able to share with the community non-toxic household cleaners, and distribute 1650 samples. We are excited to be in a unique position to do this in a number of ways such as through our farmers market and through local bodegas who are committed to having a display with samples and information for customers.
