US Dept. of Education 2014: Back-to-School Bus Tour
Tuesday, two of our high school students participated in a My Brother's Keeper roundtable discussion with student representatives from other Birmingham organizations. Sitting with them were two US Secretaries and Mayor William Bell.
Students discussed the importance of mentoring programs and how they've been transformed into leaders for their peers, as well as what advice they would provide for President Obama. Read more here.

FOX6 Melanie Posey Sits Down with GK Executive Director Response to Birmingham Violence Last week, a FOX6 team visited our headquarters in Woodlawn to talk to our Executive Director, Marcus Carson, about how Growing Kings is working to eradicate violence and crime in Birmingham through the city's youth.
FOX6 reached out to Growing Kings due to the recent thrash of violent crimes that have taken place since Labor Day Weekend. Being a Birmingham native, Marcus expressed his interest in supporting Birmingham City's underserved youth. Read more here. |
100 Mentors in 100 Days
End of Campaign Report
Wednesday, September 9th, marked the end of our Annual 100 Mentors in 100 Days campaign. We are thrilled to report that we met our goal of recruiting 100 mentors for our school-based programs.
Through this campaign we have built strong, lasting partnerships with neighboring organizations including the UAB Athletic Department and City of Birmingham.
Our next training opportunity for mentors will be tomorrow, Thursday, September 10th at 5:30PM at One 55th Place South Birmingham, AL 35212. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, or have questions regarding training, please contact Marcus Nix, Volunteer Coordinator.
