ERS ENews Header 4.25
September 2014
Dear Colleague,

We are closing in on a decade; 10 years of joining forces with partners like you - educators, philanthropists, and researchers - to transform school districts and change the lives of students.

This fall, we are welcoming the Ford Foundation as a new partner in our strategic school design work, joining with the Data Quality Campaign and The Council of Chief State School Officers on a new initiative to study how states can support districts, sharing ideas for district transformation at the Education Week blog On California, and bringing a new class of consulting staff onto our team. From the school to the state level, we are humbled and energized by the growing momentum around strategic resource use and the ideas behind School System 20/20.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Karen Hawley Miles
Executive Director

Together with the Data Quality Campaign and The Council of Chief State School Officers, we are launching a new initiative to understand how states can help districts better manage their resources - including people, time, and money - to improve student outcomes. Through data, tools, and policy changes, we believe states are uniquely positioned to help districts with this exciting challenge.

One state that has made significant changes recently is California. I was pleased to contribute a post to Charles Taylor Kerchner's Education Week blog, On California, exploring how districts can make the most of their new Local Control Funding Formula to put their resources to work for students. I hope other districts will find these recommendations inspiring in their context as well.

With the new school year, we welcome a new cohort of analysts and associates to our team. They hail from around the world, from Boston to India, and they bring fresh perspectives and talents to our work.
