Port Authority Launches Agency Operations Center

On November 12, the Port Authority announced the launch of its new Agency Operations Center (AOC) at the Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City to enhance traveler safety and help reduce congestion by increasing the efficiency of operations and incident responses across the agency's entire trans-Hudson transportation network.

Trans-World Flight Center at JFK to Be Refurbished

At its September meeting, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners approved a 75-year lease agreement with MCR Development LLC and JetBlue Airways Corp. for the development of a full-service, 500-room hotel at the site of the Trans World Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Port Authority Releases Third Quarter Financial Data

On October 22, the Port Authority announced the release of third quarter financial data on the agency's website as part of its ongoing initiatives to enhance transparency and keep the public informed about its financial performance.

Port Authority Releases Proposed 2016 Operating and Capital Budgets for Public Review
On November 30, the Port Authority posted for public review a proposed $3.0 billion Operating Budget that funds critical planning for future growth in a fiscally responsible manner.  The agency also posted a $3.5 billion Capital Budget that funds critical state-of-good-repair to existing transportation facilities and new infrastructure that is needed to sustain and accelerate growth and enhance the overall customer experience.
 
The Port Authority is seeking public comment on the proposed 2016 Budget, which is available online on the Port Authority's website The proposed budget is subject to the Board of Commissioner's approval on December 10. The agency will submit comments to the commissioners prior to their meeting.

Port Authority Board Funds Extension to Key Environmental Initiative in Port of NY/NJ
Continuing the Port Authority's initiatives to be good environmental stewards, at its meeting on November 19, the agency's Board approved a three-year extension to an incentive program for ocean vessels that call on the Port of New York and New Jersey.
 
The Board approved an additional $3.12 million for the Ocean-Going Vessel Clean Vessel Incentive Program to allow it to continue through the end of 2018. The program, launched in January 2013, encourages ship operators to improve their engines, use cleaner fuels and upgrade their technology to reduce emissions from ocean-going vessels, which are the largest source of air pollutants at port facilities.

Port Authority Names Interim General Counsel
On November 2, the Port Authority announced that the Honorable Richard J. Holwell -- a former federal judge with nearly 45 years of experience in the legal profession -- has been appointed the agency's interim General Counsel.  Judge Holwell, a partner of the law firm of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, will serve as the bi-state agency's interim General Counsel while a nationwide search is conducted for a permanent successor to former Port Authority General Counsel Darrell Buchbinder, who retired recently after more than 35 years of service.

Port Authority Board Approves Agreement to Allow for Construction of ExpressRail Port Jersey Facility
The Port Authority Board of Commissioners at its October meeting approved an agreement that will allow construction to proceed on a
Global Marine Terminal
major ship-to-rail facility adjacent to the Global Container Terminal (GCT) in Bayonne -- a project that completes the agency's $600 million initiative to provide all of its major marine terminals with direct access to rail.
