SAVING CIVILIZATION ISN'T FOR SISSIES
A message from board chairman Mike Hanauer
In my 30 years trying to draw attention to how our culture of eternal growth negatively impacts the quality of our lives and the integrity of our natural world, I've been disappointed so many insisted on just treating symptoms and avoiding the inconvenient truth. Few were bold enough to address the root cause of our crises; it was not politically correct to discuss.
Then I discovered Dave Gardner was producing a documentary called GrowthBusters: Hooked on Growth. "Finally, someone with a megaphone gets it," I thought. That film was released two years ago, but that was just the beginning for GrowthBusters. A worldwide groundswell of support convinced Dave that the "growthbusting" must go on.
GrowthBusters is the only organization I know working on the most critical challenge of our time - engaging, informing and inspiring us to do what's necessary to leave our children a planet worth inheriting. That's why I continue to donate to support Dave's work, and why I recently agreed to serve on his board of directors.
This scrappy little non-profit has the vision, the talent, the passion and the commitment to make a difference where it really counts - helping our civilization to develop a truly sustainable operating system. One documentary isn't enough. There are more films to be made, more radio and TV interviews, more YouTube videos, more web initiatives.
GrowthBusters is still a new, evolving organization. It needs more members, more activists, more ideas, and - crucially - more financial support. It needs you. Saving civilization isn't for sissies, but, as Margaret Mead said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has".
Join GrowthBusters in this world-changing effort, and we'll create a promising future for future generations.
If I had a billion dollars, I'd give most of it to GrowthBusters. I encourage you to give your thousands, or hundreds, or whatever you can afford, to this important and worthy project.
