Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary Named a National Blue Ribbon School

Please help us congratulate Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary for being designated as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School! The award is given by the U.S. Department of Education, and it recognizes public and private schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps. Since 1982, 8,500 schools across the country have been presented with this coveted award. The National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing an entry or flying overhead is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. Gwynedd has earned this distinction twice in the past 10 years! Kudos to the teachers, staff, students and families for the commitment that made this award possible.

His Holiness Pope Francis at TED2017:
Why the only future worth building includes everyone

A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you, says His Holiness Pope Francis in this searing TED Talk delivered directly from Vatican City. In a hopeful message to people of all faiths, to those who have power as well as those who don't, Pope Francis provides illuminating commentary on the world as we currently find it and calls for equality, solidarity and tenderness to prevail. "Let us help each other, all together, to remember that the 'other' is not a statistic, or a number," he says. "We all need each other."

  Advent Resources Coming Soon

The Institute of the Sisters of Mercy has prepared an Advent series that you are welcome to use as reflections within your schools, in communications with donors, or as part of special programs. This year's theme will center around "Welcoming the Stranger," and caring for displaced peoples.

For each week, a written reflection and artistic rendering on the topic – written or created by members of the Mercy community – will be posted on the Sisters of Mercy blog in English and Spanish. A large-print PDF will also be made available. The first installment will be posted this coming Thursday. Bookmark the blog and visit it each week for the next part of the series.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events and stay tuned for more details.
