Over 220 Sodexo employees renew commitment to Håfa Adai Pledge
More than 220 current and new employees of Sodexo Food Services committed to sharing the Håfa Adai spirit at Sodexo Guam’s annual back-to-school training. Sodexo is present in 38 out of 42 of Guam’s public schools and about 99% of employees are locally hired and managed. In the upcoming school year, the company expects to serve about four million meals to school children. As part of their pledge, Sodexo includes the following:

  • Continue to find opportunities to incorporate healthy versions of favorite local foods into the school menus, in addition to the Chamorro month and Lenten special menus we have in place. We will serve these healthy meals to our school children, teachers and administrators with the same warmth, care and hospitality that can be found in our home kitchens.

  • Strive to treat each other and those we serve as family and to work together with the same kindness and respect that our culture is known to exude.

  • Partner with other community organizations to help keep our island clean and beautiful.
  • Support the overall goal of helping to make Guam a better place to live, work and visit for the school children we serve, the visitors who visit our island and for each other.

TRIBUTE: Ignacio R. "Nash" Camacho
The GVB familia expresses their condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Ignacio R. “Nash” Camacho . As a seafarer, retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant and Ritidian wildlife refuge volunteer, Nash truly embodied the Håfa Adai spirit in all that he was and did for both the island and the world.

Nash, board member of the organization TASI: Traditions about Seafaring Islands, was a seafarer that found peace during his voyages and when he wasn’t preparing for a voyage, he led tours of the ancient caves and latte village at the Guam National Wildlife Refuge at Ritidian. He will be remembered as a kind, passionate man willing to go above and beyond to help those in need, and most importantly as an islander proud to educate and perpetuate Chamorro cultural knowledge and traditions.

Rest in peace, Nash and Si Yu’os Ma’åse’ for your knowledge and passion.
Meet Mario Reyes Borja, a master carver with the Sakman Chamorro Project. See how he's continuing to spread the knowledge about our traditional ways to both locals and visitors alike!
