As part of the HomeAid and Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado collaboration, the Durango Community Shelter and Southwest Safehouse were the beneficiaries of the 5th Annual Jim Dixon Golf Tournament. Held on September 9th at the Glacier Club, the event gave community members a chance to support the most vulnerable members of our community and enjoy a beautiful sunny day while doing so! Both HomeAid and Volunteers of America staff members manned a tent near the course, along with the President of the Home Builders Association, Paul Beasley. Staff was able to do import outreach with potential vendors, sharing the important work we do to support the children, women and men facing homelessness or fleeing domestic violence. While net proceeds of the event were already going to the Shelters, Staff set an additional goal to raise $1,000 through tabling at the event. Not only did they succeed in raising $1,000, they nearly doubled that amount! The day ended with over $1,700 collected for the upcoming shelter rehabilitation projects. Thank you, Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado, for your generosity in supporting Volunteers of America.
