November Newsletter

We just had our first general meeting of the year and a big thank you goes to the local units that were able to come out! Six local units were recognized for becoming Schools of Excellence, great advocacy information was shared, and we were able to give the audit report and pass the budget for the year. We couldn't do any of it without you!
FILE IRS FORM 990 NOW!
IRS DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15, 2017

All PTAs units in Florida should have an IRS Accounting period of July 1st through June 30th. If you find that your filing period was erroneously set up on the calendar year (January to December) instead of the fiscal year, please contact the Florida PTA State Office for assistance to get this corrected.  However, do not let the calendar year issue hold up your 2016 990 filing. You still must file before November 15, 2017.

You can find additional resources on the  National PTA website. You can also call Ginger in the Florida PTA State Office at 407-855-7604 x 305 or send questions via email to: compliance@floridapta.org

Reminder: Winter Training
Please join us for our winter training on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 9 AM - 11 AM to prepare for the second half of the school year. We have audits, nominating committees, and awards coming up so make sure you are prepared.

Looking for A Few Good Men

Hillsborough County Council PTA/PTSA, and Male Engagement Chairperson, Frank Reyes, are looking for male role models who are making a positive impact at your school. This can be any male including a volunteer, teacher, administrator, or school staff. We know every school has that special person who goes above and beyond and this is a great way to say thank you. We would like to showcase how your chosen person is making a difference at your school by featuring them on Facebook Live in an interview format. This will show the rest of the county why your school is so great!
If you have someone in mind or want more information please email your contact information to menhccpta@gmail.com

Dad's Club

Looking to start a Dad's Club at your school but not sure where to begin? Or do you have a Dad's Club but still need to increase male involvement? Studies show that there is a direct correlation between having positive, male role models and kids being successful with grades and maturing. Hillsborough County Council PTA/PTSA has a special program called M.E.N., Male Engagement Network, that is ready to encourage, support, and help create avenues to increase male involvement at your school.

What we can do for your school:
  * come present during an event
  * help create events for male participation
  * give your school information about the importance of male role models

Even if your Dad's Club is going strong, we hope you will send us an invite to your next event. We would love the opportunity to come out, meet everyone, and be part of your continued success.

For more information, please email Frank Reyes at menhccpta@gmail.com

  • Avoid photos of students. The school consent form does NOT work for the PTA/PTSA.
  • Create Facebook events for all your events and invite people.
  • Do Not Automate. It is always tempting to automatically sync several social media platforms to Facebook so you only have to send one status   update. However, avoid doing this as much as possible because each social media platform is unique in the culture of the community and the way content is shared.
  • Remember to encourage your PTA board members, volunteers, students (if you are a PTSA), teachers, and families to engage and be active on your PTA page.
  • Tweet Often. Experts recommend tweeting four to six times per day.

We Love Our Business Partners! Thanks for Your Support!
