May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month and the Swansfield PTA wants to educate and help protect our families from the ticks that carry the often-debilitating Lyme disease. Last August, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that 300,000 people each year get Lyme disease. Research has shown us that children ages 5-14 are at the greatest risk of acquiring Lyme disease and Howard County is the second hardest hit county in the State.

Here's a fun video game teaching kids in grades 2-5 about ticks.
This video, created for 3-8th graders, enables children to understand prevention measures, what a tick is and how to recognize a tick attachment (bite). They will also learn what to do when bitten by a tick and the symptoms of Lyme disease.
