Did You Know...
The Prepare for Success Program is a Community Effort?
The Prepare for Success program (PFS) is an almost year round, all volunteer activity that sends much needed supplies to schools prior to the new school year. While Prepare for Success is a formal partnership among PFS, the Howard County Public School System and the Community Action Council, it involves many other institutions and individuals.  It takes a community. Click here for more information about the organizations that support PFS.

You can donate supplies for students in need at Kahler Hall through August 14. Click here to learn ways to make a monetary donation at any time during the year.

Call MISS Utility... It's the Law!
Miss Utility
Residents are reminded to call Miss Utility at 1-800-257-7777 at least 48 hours before digging to determine the location of all gas, electric, telephone, cable and water lines. This service is free of charge.
Trash and Recycling 101

Howard County code and the Village Guidelines for maintenance require that trash cans and recycling bins be placed out for pickup not earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening prior to your collection day. After collection, trash cans and recycling bins must be removed and stored out of view of neighboring and adjacent properties.

Tips to Cut your Trash in HALF

  • RECYCLE unlimited quantities of household recyclables on your recycling day. Put your mixed paper, plastic bottles, metal cans, cardboard, glass bottles and jars "All Together Now" in a bin or see-through bag; yard waste must be kept separate.
  • COMPACT and CONSOLIDATE your trash into 4 bags or trash cans (remember - 40 pound limit per item).
  • GRASSCYCLE by leaving your grass clippings on your lawn and help fertilize your lawn naturally.
  • COMPOST grass, leaves and other yard waste to make a high grade soil.

Lyme Disease Presentation
When: July 23 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Where: The Other Barn (5851 Robert Oliver Place)

Please join Oakland Mills Community Association for a presentation on Lyme Disease. The numbers of those who have Lyme Disease are staggering and growing. It is fair to assume that everyone living in this area has a close family friend or relative living with Lyme Disease. This presentation will cover the basics and create an awareness of Lyme Disease.

Speakers include a representative from the Howard County Health Department and Mrs. Kandice Dickover, M.S. The Health Department will discuss prevention of tick-borne disease, creating a tick-safe zone through landscaping, tick removal and recognizing symptoms of Lyme disease.

Mrs. Dickover founded the Howard County Lyme Awareness Group three years ago after suffering from a debilitating mystery illness for 4.5 years before discovering that she had Lyme Disease. After educating herself about the disease, her two sons and husband were bitten by ticks during a scouting trip. Mrs. Dickover opens her home monthly to Lyme Support Group Meetings and holds free webinars and public education events.

This presentation is free and open to the public and will include time for Q & A.  For more information contact Sandy Cederbaum, Oakland Mills Village Manager at [email protected] or call 410-730-4610.
