Did You Know...
Area Blood Donations are Critically Low?

The American Red Cross is facing a looming blood shortage, leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve and give.

Donations through the Red Cross are down approximately 8 percent over the last 11 weeks, resulting in about 80,000 fewer donations than expected.

The shortfall in donations is significant enough that the Red Cross could experience an emergency shortage in the coming weeks. Please make an appointment to give now to help replenish the blood supply.

Eligible blood and platelet donors are urged to roll up a sleeve and give to help prevent an emergency shortage and ensure an adequate blood supply for patients. The need for blood donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative is especially urgent.

Patients don't get a summer vacation from needing blood. The Red Cross encourages donors to make an appointment now to help ensure a stable supply in the weeks ahead.

Covenant Corner
Our Covenant Advisor is Here to Help You

The covenant advisor helps residents submit applications for changes to the exterior of their homes, inspects the exterior of properties prior to their sale or upon receiving a complaint and works with residents to facilitate compliance with the Harper's Choice Covenants. In some cases, we must refer resident's calls to other authorities.

Here is a list of numbers for your reference:

Renters: Howard County handles licensing and enforcement for rental property.  They can be reached at 410-313-2455.

Pets: Problems with a neighbors' pet or stray animals, contact Howard County Animal Control at 410-313-2780.

Vehicles: Howard County Code requires vehicles parked in the open in Columbia to be legally tagged and operable. The Village has no jurisdiction over vehicles parked on county streets.  Call the Police non-emergency number to report such vehicles: 410-313-2200.

Open Space: Trees, trash or debris in open space of concern to you?  Residents should call CA Open Space Maintenance with concerns at 410-312-6330.

Graffiti: Report graffiti to us at the Village office.  We will report to the proper authorities. Provide as much information as possible: 410-730-0770.

Neighbor Disputes: The covenant advisor will make a site visit if a complaint is determined to be covenant related, but we cannot resolve communication problems between neighbors. The appropriate place to direct calls of this nature is The Mediation and Conflict Resolution Center, housed at the Community College: 410-203-2330.

The Big Thank You

Thanksgiving is a day American's set aside to give thanks for a variety of things: people, comfort, freedom.

This year, we will honor and thank the men and women of our armed forces who are serving overseas and who will be away from their families during such a special holiday.

Watch for more details about how you can say "Thank You" in a very special way, including an all-day School's Out event that will provide all that you need to write your message of thanks.

Friday, October 17 from 9AM - 3PM at Kahler Hall!
