Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed your Holiday Season and spent quality time with friends and family.  The Presidential Election is over, and it will be interesting to see what changes are in store for the ACA, and more importantly its impact on the Great State of Texas.  We had Evan Smith from the Texas Tribune speak at our November Luncheon to give us his perspective on the election.  As usual, he provided a wealth of information and was quite entertaining.  Evan is the Co-founder and CEO of the Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news organization recently called "one of the nonprofit news sector's runaway success stories".

Please note the great 2017 events and conferences scheduled for the first quarter.

University Spotlight - TAMU Student Interview

The University Spotlight Program recognizes Bachelor and Master Degree programs that prepare students for healthcare career opportunities.  As part of the program, Edgar Morgan, TAMU student was provided a unique opportunity to attend an HFMA Luncheon and interview attendee, Ed Tyrrell, SVP Houston Methodist.

When Mr. Tyrrell was why he attended this luncheon, he noted that it's important for him to stay current with what is happening in the health care world.  From a management perspective, Tyrrell referred to this event as an opportunity to interact with fellow professionals, "see what's going on," and earn CPE credits for his CPA license.

Mr. Tyrrell shared his thoughts on access to heath care and the importance of collaboration between federal, state, and local  governments.

The new revenue cycle management:
Migration to a single vendor for clinical and financial processes

The rapidly evolving healthcare industry is raising a new question for healthcare providers: do they stay "best-of-breed" for electronic health records (EHR) and revenue cycle management (RCM) systems or do they embrace an integrated, single vendor solution?
New government regulations and changing reimbursement systems have shifted the industry's focus to outcomes and quality.

While technology was incorporated into both the clinical and financial aspects of healthcare during the 1980's and 1990's, the two systems developed independently of one another.

Backlogs in your Revenue Cycle?
A cash acceleration team may be the answer.

There are many explanations for sluggish cash performance and obviously, understanding causes may be useful in preventing recurrence.

Meantime, you have a backlog and the challenge is to get caught up.  That's where a cash acceleration team can be helpful.
