Consider calling together the houses of worship in your area to talk about how you might be able to work together following a disaster.  Not every location can be a Red Cross shelter but perhaps several organizations could work together to support a Red Cross shelter with volunteers, meals or other resources. Interfaith Ministries' HIDRA coordinator, Carol Flores would be happy to help facilitate such a conversation.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance produced this video to help houses of worship think about how they might prepare to host volunteers after a disaster.  Consider watching this as part of your next leadership gathering.
Hosted by Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, HIDRA is a network of clergy and lay leaders from Houston area faith communities who gather to learn together and share experiences about disaster preparedness & response. Visit IMGH.org/Disaster for more information.
