*** 2014***
Celebrates 30 years
of Hearts In Motion

It's hard to believe that HIM has been serving those in need for 30 years. We are so very appreciative to all of you who have passionately worked along side of us impacting thousands and thousands of lives here in the U.S. and Central & South America. A special thank you to all of you who have captured our vision and have supported us so faithfully over the years helping us to build HIM to where it is today.

Hope For Mom & Baby
Teresa, at 41 years old, came to our Nutrition Center in Guatemala to see if we could help her 11th child, who at 2 months old, weighed only 5 pounds. Teresa was so malnourished her self that she was unable to nurse her baby girl. Little did she know that morning would change both of their lives! Not only were we able to take in her baby at our Nutrition Center, but we offered to repair her cleft lip and palate in March on our Cleft Lip/Palate and Plastic Surgery trip giving her the opportunity to receive this life changing surgery. This is an amazing story that has really touched our hearts and we so blessed to be able to give hope to both mother and daughter.

The New School Year Has Started
January brings about the beginning of the new school year in Guatemala. Thanks to our sponsors, new uniforms were distributed and back packs full of school supplies where handed out bringing huge smiles to our children's faces. This year, we are so excited to have 106 children participating in the sponsorship program where all but 14 are sponsored! If you're interested in helping a child attend school, check out our website at www.heartsinmotion.org to find out more about this program.

H.I.M.'s Kentucky Office
Summer Camp Project

Hearts In Motion is partnering with Integrated Community Ministries. ICM works with the people of McCreary County Kentucky, located in the hills of Appalachia. They provide a learning center, food bank and thrift store to help one of the poorest communities in our nation. The Kentuckiana Branch of Hearts In Motion has been helping in that area for the last 3 years by sending donations of food, clothes and funds. Hearts In Motion wants to expand our work with ICM by bringing 10 of ICM's hardest working students (chosen by executive directors Barb and Hilton Duncan) to Louisville, Kentucky for a weekend of fun. Please consider sponsoring one of these students so that their trip to Louisville can become a reality. For a $100 sponsorship you will provide a child 2 nights and 3 days in Louisville to see a baseball game, explore downtown Louisville, and spend the day at the local amusement park.

Purdue North Central Nursing
Joins The HIM Family

For the past two years, Peggy Rose, FNP, has been working towards getting Purdue North Central nursing students involved in medical mission trip experiences. Peggy has a heart for service and for education. In the past two years her students have volunteered at our HIM office sorting medical supplies and donations. The students in the community health class have been a phenomenal asset to HIM. In January, Peggy and the nursing department chair, Diane Spoljoric, FNP, went on a scouting trip to Guatemala. The trip involved clinics, surgery, and medical screenings. The experience for the two educators only brings students at PNC one step closer to the international experience. We would like to thank the two Professors on taking the time to join HIM on a trip and making a difference in the world!!!

Carroll University Conference
On February 12, HIM participated in Carroll University's Cross Cultural Experience Fair. The CCE fair hosted several non-profit and NGO's from around the country and promoted long and short term study abroad experiences. For a few hours during the day, students were able to ask questions directly from the organizations that provide international services. This fair educated the students on international options available to them and they were also able to talk with professionals that have experienced service or educational mission trips. Carroll University has been partnering with Hearts In Motion for 6 years and has helped educate hundreds of students along the way. Thanks Carroll University!!!
