Message from our Principal

Hello parents, families and friends of Harding Middle School. I hope each of you are enjoying your Spring Break. Don’t forget that school resumes on Tuesday, April 3 and this will be followed by a busy first week of April.

First order of business: Tuesday is “Bring a Friend” to school day. We will welcome our guests and their invitee to a hot breakfast at 8am followed by music selections played by our HMS Performing Arts ensembles. Visitors will accompany their friend to class for the rest of the morning, have lunch, then participate with our student body as we celebrate the kickoff to testing with grade level kickball games.

On Wednesday, April 4th state testing begins with the ELA test and concludes Friday, May 11 with Math and Science. We will be assessing in all grades for ELA and Math. Additionally, Ohio Science Assessments will be administered in 5th and 8th grade. Please emphasize to your children the importance of doing their very best when taking these tests. Make sure they get plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast daily. We encourage parents to help us keep the kids focused on their goals as we push through the end of the year.

Our 4th grade social, Making Memories in the Middle, will be held on Thursday, April 5th from 6-8pm. Any upcoming Harding students are invited with their family to attend the social. This will serve as a day to meet the Harding Staff and students from the other elementary buildings. Free food, t-shirts, prizes and more will be passed out to our upcoming Stallions!!! Also, we will have a mini orientation, play games and hear from current staff and students about the programs offered at HMS!!!

I’d like to wish our Stallion track and softball team the best of luck this season. Please come support our track team at home on Monday, April 9th. Also, Good luck to our girls trying out for cheering as mandatory clinics begin on April 13th.

I’m excited about getting back to the grind. Let’s work hard, stay focused on the goal and finish this school year Stallion Strong!!!

Sincerely,
Principal Bryan Mills

SADD CLUB NEWS

The end of the school year is quickly approaching, as well as SADD Club's annual Relay for Life! Last year was a huge success, raising over $6,000 in nine days! This year, we are hoping to reach our goal of $10,000 and are kicking off our Relay this month.  During April and May, we will sponsor fun donation days, as well as other fun ways to raise money, including selling t-shirts to wear the day of our relay down at the track. Student reps will be around to classrooms with information in the upcoming weeks about our relay. On April 12th, we will kickoff our Relay with a fun 80s/neon day. Students bringing a dollar or more donation will be able to dress up in 80s/neon wear. On April 19th, we will host a hat day.  Students will be able to wear their favorite hat to school for a donation. Just as last year, our relay will be a grade level competition. The grade raising/donating the most money will get to face their teachers in a kickball game in May! The 6th grade students had a blast at this event last year. Look for relay information to come home with your child in the next few weeks. Let's have fun raising money for a wonderful cause!

GREAT WORK!
Message from the Nurse

You should have received a letter from the nurse if your child needs vaccines for the 7th grade. Please get these vaccines as soon as you can. The Jefferson County Health department can help with these at a low cost on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11 and 1-3.The State requires these shots to remain in the seventh grade. Within 2 weeks of the start of school if your child is not vaccinated with the meningococcal and Tdap vaccines, they will be kept out of school until they are properly vaccinated or an exemption form is filed with the nurse.

Pick up and Drop off
Please continue to be patient and use caution when transporting your child on school grounds to and from school. As you can see, the Calvin Jones Construction Project has begun and as a result Calvin Jones Road has been reduced to one way. In the AM, we want to use the entire front sidewalk to drop off students.  By pulling all the way up to the stop sign or until the traffic stops will help reduce the congestion on Sunset Blvd. Please have your child or children ready to step out and get onto the sidewalk. If extensive time is needed for unloading please pull into a parking spot to accomplish this. Your understanding with this is much appreciated. In the PM, we hope everyone understands that 734 students are exiting the building in a matter of 10-12 minutes. Busses will pull out at 2:39pm and walkers / pick-ups will be released at 2:40. At this time our emphasis will be on the safety of students.  We will attempt to get as many students up the crosswalk as we can before allowing cars to leave. Please allow the multiple staff members crossing students and directing traffic to lead the dismissal. Parking along the front sidewalk is prohibited in the PM because it blocks our view of students crossing the road to find their rides. It helps considerably if you park your car into a spot if they are available during dismissal.
Thank you for everything you do to keep our kids safe.
