COMFORT FOOD CRUISE EXTENDED!

Due to the Winter Storm the weekend of Jan 25 & 26 the First Annual Hocking Hills Comfort Food Cruise now includes February 8 & 9. Cruise the beautiful Hocking Hills while indulging your taste buds at ten restaurants each featuring a different classic comfort food. Tickets are $15 each and $5 of each ticket sold will be donated to local food pantries. THURSDAY, February 6th - Waterloo Owl Prowl - 5pm to 8pm; Join the Raccoon Creek Partnership & Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist for a winter Owl Prowl at the Waterloo Aquatic Education Center. From 5-6pm get cozy by a campfire and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows. We'll take an "up close" look at our nocturnal friends and then we'll go for an evening walk and try to call in our region's most stealthy predator - the owl! FRIDAY, February 7th & SATURDAY, February 8th - Ravenwood Castle Beer Tasting Weekend - Tickets include dinner Friday and Saturday nights, a commemorative Ravenwood Castle pint glass and samplings of at least twelve beers through the weekend. Rooms are an additional cost, please book online or call for a room. Friday night will feature the Maumee Bay Brewing Co. They offer one of our favorite stouts - the Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout - plus many more. Saturday night will feature beer samples from some other favorite Ohio breweries. SATURDAY, February 8th - Hearts on Fire - 5pm to 8pm; Just in time for Valentine's Day, join us for a very hot date! Get your creative juices flowing with a partner and make a gorgeous glass heart paperweight together in our glassblowing studio. Enjoy light refreshments and browse through our exhibits after your private lesson is complete. Participants must wear all-cotton clothing and shoes that cover your entire foot. Long hair must be tied back. Glass hearts need to cool down very slowly and will be ready for pick up in our Gift Shop by Tuesday, Feb. 11. SATURDAY, February 8th - Murder at Rutherford House - Dinner/Theatre - 7pm; This is a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre performance the food service is built into the story. It is the fifth anniversary of the death of Lord Rutherford. Lady Rutherford is throwing her annual dinner in commemoration of the event-- to which you are cordially invited. On arrival you are given a character name and a dossier explaining your background and connection to the Rutherford family. Over cocktails, you mingle with the other guests, spotting the Baroness von Keepsemfrumfloppen and figuring she's an actress, but what about all these other people Suddenly, there's a gunshot resulting in the evening's first corpse. The body is removed and you sit down to dinner. A detective reveals himself and begins the investigation. What have you observed so far Have you a clue to the killer Clues seem to be everywhere, but which ones count and which are red herrings Ultimately, there is a parade of suspects. You may question them. Perhaps you ask just the right question at the right time and unmask the murderer. Perhaps you ask the wrong question and become the prime suspect! You begin to wonder will you survive till the coffee and cordials are served In the end, all is revealed and justice prevails. SUNDAY, February 16th - Birds of a Feather - 2pm to 4pm; An afternoon of fun for children from 3 to 8 years old at three great locations in downtown Lancaster! Read books, sing songs and do a craft about birds at the Library; at AHA!, learn about birds through games, crafts and play; then view the Glass Museum's glass birds exhibit and a short film. JANUARY 25 - APRIL 13 - "My Best Friends are Potters" Ceramics From the Tim Frederich Collection; Tues - Sat 10am to 4pm; Sun 1pm to 4pm; Barbara Hunzicker and Hal Stevens, Curators. Dublin, Ohio ceramics artist Tim Frederich has been collecting the work of other internationally renowned potters for 45 years. Both functional and sculptural objects-some inspired by nature, others by ancient forms-have been selected for this exhibition. There are wheel thrown, carved, slab and pinch built pieces of stoneware clay and porcelain. Surfaces are sculpted and incised, salt glazed or fired in wood filled pits and wood, gas and raku kilns. Innovative glazes have produced finishes that range from matte to glossy to exquisite crystals, creating one-of-a-kind surfaces of breathtaking diversity. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups. Museum hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm and Saturday by appointment. Tours are $4 which includes souvenir magnet.
