Divine Chocolate
Divine Chocolate is made from fair trade cocoa beans farmed in Ghana. In the early 1990's, the farmers of Kuapa Kokoo formed a cooperative and became known as the Good Cocoa Farmers. By early 1993, this farmer owned and run cooperative incorporated under the name of Day Chocolate Company with its farmers owning most of the company shares.
Fair Trade certified cocoa growers will not use children in their cocoa production. Their farmers get a living wage for the product and have learned how to protect the environment in the growing of cocoa plants.
This superior cocoa bean is manufactured into the Divine Chocolate in Germany. They began to use Fair Trade sugar from Malawi in the production of chocolate in 2007. The chocolate is considered suitable for vegetarians to eat. Because the plants which manufacture Divine Chocolate make other products with milk and wheat/gluten, this chocolate bar cannot be considered 100% safe for vegans and/or those requiring a gluten free diet.
We sell this high quality Chocolate in Just Trade 505 6th Street. Try the various flavors of chocolate and you will know it is Divine!

We Made Our Goal!
Thanks to many generous donations we have reached the $4,000 goal to pay for our new Espresso Machine! Having the second machine is especially helpful when we have events in the stores or Center and the customer line is longer than usual. As a struggling non-profit organization, the generosity of friends and supporters is a necessary component in our financial planning and sustainability. Many thanks to all who contributed to this cause!

Explore Fair Trade!
If you are planning your summer vacation, plan to continue buying fair trade while away from home. You can still be a conscious consumer by doing a little research before leaving to wherever your travels may take you!
The Fair Trade Federation website has a list of fair trade stores and cafes by state. Simply search "fair trade stores and cafes" on their website and browse the many businesses that are dedicated to creating positive change for marginalized producers and artisans around the world. You can also find supermarkets and other stores that sell fair trade products on these websites. Happy exploring!

Highlight On Mexican Artisans
Costello International is one of our vendors for the merchandise in Just Trade. Their goal is to improve work standards and expand markets for Mexican families of the Nahuatl Indian Nation who produce traditional mosaic inlay crafts. The designs are chosen by the artisan, produced in the home, and, in many cases, are inspired by nature, to which these natives are closely bound.
We have bracelets, rings, and earrings from these artisans. Each piece is unique in its design and setting. The jewelry from this region of Mexico comes with a lifetime warranty through Costello International.
We hope you come to see our new jewelry selections from Mexico. Each piece runs about $9.00 and helps a family and community in southern Mexico live a better life.

Many Volunteer Opportunities Available
The loss of many of our student volunteers for the summer has left many openings in our volunteer schedule. By committing to as little as three hours a month, you can be part of the solution to poverty, both local and global, and have fun while doing so! Consider becoming a barista in Cup of Hope, a cashier in Just Trade, or a receptionist in the client services area. The HOPES Center is a great place to give back and be part of the solution to homelessness in Racine. Or, if you are unable to commit to service at this time, mention the opportunity to acquaintances who might be searching for a way to be a power for good.
Please contact Margaret for more information on any of the volunteer opportunities at 262-898-2940.
