Today, the HPC is releasing a report on
Opioid Use Disorder in Massachusetts.
The report includes findings from analyses conducted to assess the impact of opioid use disorder on the health care system, as well as proposed policy recommendations to increase the efficiency of treatment for opioid use disorder and neonatal abstinence syndrome throughout the health care continuum.
The report focuses on the impact of the opioid epidemic on hospitals and outpatient medication-assisted treatment (MAT) availability, and makes a number of recommendations around care delivery and payment reform that could accelerate the state's ability to respond to the epidemic

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) is an independent state agency that develops policy to reduce health care cost growth and improve the quality of patient care. The HPC has five core responsibilities: Monitoring the performance of the health care system, analyzing the impact of health care market transactions on cost, quality, and access, setting the health care cost growth benchmark, investing in community health care delivery system transformation, and certifying patient-medical homes (PCMHs) and accountable care organizations (ACOs).
