HPC Releases   Summary Report of Provider Price Variation Stakeholder Discussion Series  
       
As previewed at the Health Policy 
Commission's   June 1  Board meeting, the HPC is releasing the Provider Price Variation Stakeholder Discussion Series Summary Report.  The Summary Report is a follow-on report to the HPC's 2015 Cost Trends Report on Provider Price Variation , which was released in January 2016 in conjunction with the 2015 Cost Trends Report . 
 
This spring, the HPC convened a group of stakeholders in a series of meetings to discuss specific, data-driven policy options to address unwarranted provider price variation in Massachusetts.  All of the materials from the discussions are available on the HPC's website here.  To conclude the Discussion Series, HPC staff have prepared this Summary Report, which includes some new analyses by the HPC, to help inform policymakers as they seek to address this critical issue.

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) is an independent state agency that develops policy to reduce health care cost growth and improve the quality of patient care. The HPC has five core responsibilities: Monitoring the performance of the health care system, analyzing the impact of health care market transactions on cost, quality, and access, setting the health care cost growth benchmark, investing in community health care delivery system transformation, and certifying patient-medical homes (PCMHs) and accountable care organizations (ACOs). The HPC's 11-member Board provides oversight to the activities of the agency.
