Hutchens PR Wins Prestigious PRSA Silver Anvil Award of Excellence

Earns National Recognition for the Innovation and Creativity of Soitec's North American Solar Manufacturing Facility Dedication

Hutchens PR, a full-service public relations and integrated marketing communications firm specializing in public relations strategy and branding, community relations, issues management and media, received a Silver Anvil Award of Excellence, from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding strategic public relations planning and implementation, was announced during the Silver Anvil Awards Ceremony held June 7 in New York City.

Hutchens PR received the 2012 Silver Anvil Award of Excellence for its support of Soitec's U.S. initiatives during 2011, including the strategic planning of the company's North American Manufacturing Facility Dedication that drew participation from California Governor Edmund G. Brown, CPUC Commissioner Timothy Simon, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, support from over 300 community and business leaders, and national media coverage in business and trade publications, including the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek.

Hutchens PR worked with Soitec throughout 2011 in building strong brand awareness for the company in the United States, culminating in the expeditious approvals from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) of Soitec's over 300 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale power purchase agreements for projects in San Diego and Imperial Counties; and in the dedication of Soitec's North American Manufacturing Facility bringing 450 direct skilled jobs to the region.

"It has been my pleasure to work with Karen Hutchens and the Hutchens PR team over the past year in establishing Soitec as a market leader in the United States," said Clark Crawford, Vice President Sales and Business Development USA, Solar Energy Business Unit, Soitec. "Hutchens PR has been an integral part of Soitec's team in providing support for our U.S. business goals, including establishing support for Soitec's initiatives with the California Governor's office and CPUC, providing strategy for the swift approvals from the CPUC for our PPAs, and in providing community relations liaison with businesses and economic groups to gain support for our development projects in the San Diego region."

The Silver Anvil Awards program has grown in scope and stature since its inception in 1946, and awards are now given in 59 categories and subcategories. In the 60-plus-year history of the Silver Anvils, many organizations have been recognized, including solo practitioners, agencies of all sizes, large and small businesses, top corporations, nonprofits, associations and government agencies.

"The Award of Excellence recognizes top comprehensive programs in the public relations industry," said James J. Roop, APR, Fellow PRSA, 2012 Awards and Honors Committee chair and president of Roop & Co., Cleveland, Ohio. "To receive an Award of Excellence, programs must be of Silver Anvil caliber and represent some of the finest strategic and creative thinking in our profession."
