Undoing Overtime Pay Changes

As you may be aware, on the evening of November 22nd a preliminary injunction was placed on the new Department of Labor (DOL) overtime regulations that were to go into effect December 1st.

This action left employers, who spent months preparing and budgeting in an effort to comply with the new rules, extremely frustrated. If you are confused and in a difficult position to again communicate to employees, or adjust pay, you are not alone.

The following SHRM article discusses how some employers may hold off, or roll back changes until the final decision is communicated. Click Here to read more

OSH A's new post-accident reporting rule on drug testing.....
Many employers enforce post-accident drug and alcohol testing policies to promote workplace safety, as part of accident investigation efforts, and in the hope of reducing workplace accidents and workers' compensation claims. For for those employers, the legal landscape may have shifted when the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published its final rule on electronic reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses.  Click here to read more about the new post-accident reporting rule.

  Holiday Parties and Conduct Policy

Many employers are either in the midst, or putting the final touches on planning the perfect holiday gathering. As casual social interation interfaces with business, there are legitimate issues to consider; including the legal liabilities of serving alcohol.

Top 5 Reasons to Invest in Training

  1. Training increases employee engagement. Engaged employees are happier and contribute more in discretionary effort to their companies.
  2. Well-trained managers boost employee morale. Good morale means companies are less likely to lose high performers.
  3. Training builds employee skills, leaving less gaps that can impact productivity. Training makes people efficient in performing their jobs.
  4. Training aids succession planning. Employees cross-trained in important skills can fill in for others who normally do the job. Experienced employees may be able to take on senior roles in the company, when openings occur.
  5. Keeping it legal! Many employees are not aware that certain laws govern workplace behavior. Untrained employees can unwittingly do or say things that run afoul of the law. Providing regular training is evidence that the company proactively tries to help employees do the right thing.
