Preparing our students for tomorrow
through real world experiences today

Principal's Corner:

Dear Parent/Guardian:

I'd like to welcome you to Horizon Science Academy Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year. Our school's mission is to prepare students to succeed in college and the world by offering high-quality, college-prep, STEM education.

I am the new principal at HSA CMS but I have been working with Concept school since 2001. If you need to speak to me for any school related issues, I will be happy to work with you throughout the school year.

We provide the opportunity to excel in academics, fine arts and extra-curricular community/social areas so that your children may become positive, contributing members of our society. We opened our doors on Tuesday, August 15th full of excitement for the year ahead.  In order for you and your child to have a smooth beginning to the school year, we provided student orientation days for each grade level leading up to the first day of school.

Communication with your child's teachers is important. If you have not had a chance to talk to your child's classroom teachers don't hesitate to email the teachers and/ or call the school to schedule a meeting. Please use our website frequently. You will find a lot of useful information pertaining to your child's education and upcoming events for the school. In order to access the site you must have a password and username. If you have not been provided one please contact our school office. They will be happy to assist you.

Be advised that every student has a planner that was provided to them during orientation. It is really important to keep it throughout the school year. They need it for all classes. You can also find school student handbook that you can refer to for a lot of you school related questions such as uniform and attendance.

If you have not already, please use our school website to order school t-shirts. We no longer sell t-shirt in the school building.

We wish you a happy, healthy and successful school year.

Thank you!

Hasan Akkaya
Principal

Solar Eclipse Day 2017

What a great way to kick off the year! Last Monday marked the first solar eclipse seen from the contiguous United States in over 30 years. Nature provided all of our students with a priceless science lesson that they were able to witness through solar approved glasses. Students spent the day learning about the eclipse and how to safely view the eclipse with their own shadow boxes that they made during science class.

Thank you Mr. Nuri and all of our staff who made this day in history one to remember for our students.

Former Student Speaks With Ms. Rogers' Class

On August 23rd, Ms. Rogers invited a former student of HSA Columbus to come and speak with the students about perseverance, how to go after your goals and how to treat other people, these are all important points of character building. Mr. Sumlin, graduated high school with an Associate's degree and went on to attended and graduate from Morehouse College in May of  2017. Mr. Sumlin is currently attending Boston University for graduated school. This young man, who is also a published author, has taken the time to give back to his community and speak with our students.

Thank you Ms. Rogers for always providing your students with role models from their community! We would also like to thank Mr. Sumlin for sharing his story with our students.
