County Health Rankings Releases New Data

County Health Rankings is a county level dataset of many measures that could help employer-community collaborations. Measures such as quality of life, health behaviors and clinical data are used to rank counties and states. This month, CHR releases its latest rankings and includes new measures and tools to support collaboration as well. Check out the latest rankings, new data, and tools here.

  Funding, Funding, Funding,

Check out these new funding opportunities related to healthy community work:
  • The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will award up to $2.6 million for studies related to nutrition and healthy eating. RWJF's national program, Healthy Eating Research, "reserves awards for innovative studies focused on rural, American Indian, and Asian/Pacific Islander populations."  Deadline for concept papers is May 11th.
  • Community Partners, with support from The California Endowment, Blue Shield of California Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, has released a Request for Proposals for up to six Accountable Communities for Health.  "Accountable Communities for Health (ACH) seek to explicitly bring together key sectors and partners from the community to the health care delivery system in order to collectively advance a common health goal."  Up to six awardees will receive up to $250,000 in the first year of funding and up to $300,000 per year for the next two years. Grantees will also receive technical assistance and participate in a learning community.  To submit a proposal (deadline, April 29th).
New Resources are added to HWHC each month...

This month's additions include:
  • Report: Reporting on Health - A Roadmap for Investors, Companies and Reporting Platforms
The most recent report from The Vitality Group released in January 2016 offers insight into the value employers can capture through community involvement. The report also offers several frameworks and measures that could be useful to those employers beginning to explore the role they might play in community health.
  • Report: Metrics that Matter For Population Health Action
This report from the Institute of Medicine was released in February of 2016 and explores measures used in population health efforts. The report has a strong focus on community and offers insight into local level measures, barriers to finding useful measures and the overall landscape of measures that exist today.
  • Website: 100 Million Healthier Lives
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has collaborated with several other organizations to create the 100 Million Healthier Lives movement. The goal of the collaboration is to "fundamentally transform the way the world thinks and acts to improve health, well-being and equity to get to breakthrough results." The website associated with the movement includes educational event announcements, measures resources and a library of materials related to healthy community collaboration.
