Celebrating 20 Years of Building Homes and Building Hope
Thanks to the dedicated support of our donors, sponsors, tradespeople and volunteers, Habitat for Humanity NCR has been making homeownership a reality for hard-working, low-income families in our region since 1993. We're celebrating our 20th anniversary this year with special events, tributes and profiles of the people who make it possible to build safe, decent and affordable homes right here in our community!

Our build of three homes on Nantes Street in Orlans is going well, thanks to our volunteers, corporate teams, tradespeople, suppliers and especially Ken, our Construction Manager.

The three homes will be completed this fall. Stay tuned for details about our Dedication Ceremonies.

We have been pleased to have many corporate teams volunteering on site to date, including RBC, Halogen Software, Home Depot, IBM, Nissan Canada, the Appraisal Institute and many more.

We also held a Faith Build Week from Sept.7-13! Thanks to all of the volunteers from Bethel Pentecostal Church, Metropole Home Church, Emmanuel United Church, Capital City Church and Parkdale United Church.

Pinecrest Retrofit
Another exciting event this month was the kick-off of our retrofit at 861 Pinecrest Ave on Sept. 18. This older Habitat NCR home will be renovated this fall and purchased by the Quazi family later this year. Learn more about this deserving family on our website.

Go to Habitat NCR's Facebook page for regular updates of the construction progress and see photos of our volunteers and corporate teams working hard to make homeownership a reality for hard-working, low-income families in our community.

A Habitat NCR first took place on Sept. 7 when three generations of one family came together to volunteer on our build.

Phil Sheen, who is the Chair of our Build Committee and one of our Build Crew Leaders, was joined by his daughters, Julie and Joanna, and his granddaughter, Tori.
Phil says it was a proud day for him to work alongside his girls on the build site.

Looking Back: Faith Build 2009

As we celebrate Habitat NCR's 20th anniversary, we're looking back at our builds over the years. In 2009, we held our first-ever Faith Build in the National Capital Region.

The slogan for the Faith Build was "bridging faiths, building homes, believing in a brighter future." Local congregations donated to the project and supplied volunteers to help build the home.

The build, located on Appleton Drive, made the dream of homeownership a reality for Lily Alfaro and her two sons and involved hundreds of volunteers, donors and sponsors. Thanks to everyone who was involved!
