Let's Keep Building!
Spring is Here!
 ,

What a beautiful week we've had! I hope you've been able to enjoy some of this incredible sunshine.

We want to say "THANK YOU" to all of you that support us through your volunteer labor, monies, and through your donations or discounts of materials and services for our Habitat homes. We also appreciate all of your donations and the shopping you do at our ReStore!

Currently, we are building single family homes for the Gonzalez, Mitma and Graham/Mollman families and soon to break ground on homes for the Kirsch and Casner families. And boy, are they excited! Be on the lookout for Home Dedication dates and events surrounding some of these.

Due to the high cost of land for single family homes, we recently purchased property on Greenwood and 12th, just across the street from Pilot Butte, where we will build our first townhouse project for three families beginning in June! These single family, attached homes are being designed by Ascent Architecture and will be an attractive addition to the community. We will hold a ground breaking ceremony in June and we'd love for you to join us! For more information on this project and how you can get involved, please contact me.

Meet the Mitma's
Before learning about Habitat for Humanity, Jesus and Paola Mitma and their two children, Xamira and Joshua, had little hope of ever owning their own home. Although both parents worked hard, they struggled to make ends meet. When their daughter, Xamira, was born with Cerebral Palsy, Paola had to quit working to care for her.

Jesus and Paola have worked hard to navigate life with Xamira, who requires special attention and therapy for her C.P. The home they rent is quickly becoming inaccessible for Xamira's disabilities and unaffordable for their income. The Mitma family is desperate for a stable and affordable place to call home.

Jesus has had a steady job working for a cabinetry company in Bend for more than 13 years. Paola takes care of the children, Xamira and Joshua. "Every time we felt like we would start to get ahead, we learned Xamira needed more assistance and it would set us right back," said Jesus. "We were tired and we were losing hope."

We are so thankful for the partnership we have had with this great family and are thrilled that they will be able to move in to their new home soon!
Business Donors- a Key to our Success
We are fortunate to have so many amazing partnerships in this community. Bend Heating- Radiant Division has been one of them, partnering  with Bend Habitat for the past 10 years!

When we caught up with one of the owners of Bend Heating and Sheet Metal, Steve Zettle, we asked him why they have chosen to partner with us for so long. He responded by saying it just seemed to be the right fit as they could provide a service that Habitat needed. They felt that since radiant heat is the premium heating source for C. O., is energy efficient and a low cost heating source it matched up nicely with Habitat's mission of building homes that are energy efficient to keep costs down for our Habitat families. As a business, Bend Heating is very community driven and they like being a part of helping local families get a hand up.

In the last 10 years, Bend Heating, Radiant Division, has installed radiant heating in 30 Habitat homes at a greatly reduced price which has saved us more than $73,740! These energy efficient systems have saved our homeowners on average $250 a year!

We sure appreciate your commitment and partnership, Bend Heating!

Breakfast Recap
In mid-March, we held our 5th Annual Build It! Breakfast at the Riverhouse. We took a leap of faith to move it in hopes of expanding the event. I'm thrilled to tell you that we were successful! We had 260 people in attendance and more than half donated to Bend Habitat, many of whom were new donors! We raised a total of $50,000!

Thank you to our wonderful MC, speakers, video by Wahoo Films and our own soon-to-be Habitat homeowner, MOsley WOtta (Jason Graham) for the spoken word entertainment.

I'd like to give a special thank you to our table hosts! This event would not have been possible without them and their incredible work. These folks invited their friends, clients, family, co-workers and business partners to learn more about Bend Area Habitat and our mission of serving people in need through affordable housing.
