Learning to Build a Habitat Home
Greetings!

I have a confession to make. I came to Habitat CFC, well over two years ago, with the conviction that every person deserves a decent, stable, affordable home. I had a solid understanding of the need and years of experience working in a leadership role with high performing non-profit organizations. I was thrilled to join the Habitat CFC team, with a commitment to do whatever I could to improve our community and make the greatest difference for those most in need. But I had no idea how to build a house!

This summer I was determined to change that. I privately decided that I would try to get out and help build as often as I could. I know that Habitat CFC does a great job, but I wanted to experience, first hand, what thousands of volunteers experience every year. As the CEO, it was humbling to have to rely on others to instruct and supervise me, but that’s exactly what I did.

I still don’t know how to build a house. But I know what it feels like to work alongside talented, committed and extremely capable project managers and wonderful volunteers who each have their own unique reasons for giving their time. I saw how much extra effort goes into building homes that aren’t just “good enough” but that are better than they need to be. I know what it’s like to be dirty and exhausted, while feeling proud and accomplished at the same time.

I still have so much more to learn, but there is no better classroom than a Habitat CFC build site. Maybe we’ll be out there working together someday soon!

Best Wishes,
    Stuart D. Adelberg
    Chief Executive Officer
All of us at Habitat CFC are keeping those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in our thoughts. We join with all Americans in mourning the lives lost, salute the heroic efforts of all of those providing help and pray for immediate relief for the thousands still coping with the devastating effects.

Romero Family Flag-Raising

On Saturday, August 26, we were proud to have  Senator Richard Blumenthal  visit the Romero Family's home to present them with an American flag that had flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, DC!

The Romero Family moved into their home in July 2016 and are part of our Habitat for Heroes program which works to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in Fairfield County to veterans of all service branches.
