Our Family Services Team with Count Dracula
Happy Halloween from Habitat!
Greetings!

Though the history of Halloween is a little complicated, the holiday, as observed here in America, is really a neighborhood celebration. We all think of candy, costumes and scary decorations, but what we actually do on October 31 st is open our doors and homes to local children.

Though the design of each Habitat CFC house is based on the property and the needs of the family that will help build, purchase and ultimately live there, there is one element that you will see on virtually every Habitat CFC home – a welcoming front porch. The reason is quite simple – we want to build communities in which our homeowners know and interact with each other. That front porch goes a long way toward making the neighborhood “Trick or Treaters” feel welcome!

On this Halloween, I am reminded that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and welcoming neighborhood and every family deserves a porch filled with adorable ghosts, goblins and other spooky guests!

Dedication Cermony

On October 14th Habitat CFC held a dedication ceremony for Marilyn Betancourt, our newest homeowner!

What is special about Marilyn's refurbished condo is that it has been a Habitat property for almost 30 years. Two other Habitat CFC homeowners have lived in the condo and have now moved on allowing Marilyn the opportunity to obtain this affordable home from Habitat CFC.

GE Blitz Week

Close to 300 General Electric volunteers joined us in October for their annual week-long Habitat GE Blitz!

GE employees have been volunteering with Habitat CFC for over 20 years and have worked on over 30 homes. This year teams were on site October 23 through the 27th working on various construction projects. Thanks GE for your continued support!

CORE Volunteers Helped Too!

Habitat CFC's CORE Volunteers (individuals who volunteer at least one day a week with Habitat) played a key role in the Blitz. Without their help we couldn't have worked on as many homes or provided our friends from GE with such a productive volunteer experience. Many thanks to Mike McAlpine, Ron Bacchi, Mize Johnson, Larry Hartshorn, Larry Jones, Denis Mittleman and Jeffrey Thompson for going above and beyond the call!
See photos from Blitz week here.

Habitat CFC Friends Howard Collis and David Conway

The Habitat CFC family mourns the loss of two longtime advocates and volunteers, Howard Collis and David Conway.

Howard held several different Habitat CFC positions over the years including President of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of Operations.

David served as Habitat CFC’s Chairman of the Board. He also participated in several Habitat builds with President Jimmy Carter.

We honor the memory and service of these two fine gentlemen who gave so much of themselves in service to our organization and community. Their families are in our thoughts and prayers.

Did you know Habitat CFC has a ReStore?
What is a ReStore?
A ReStore is a Habitat for Humanity store that accepts donations of new and gently used items from individuals and businesses in the community and sells those items to the public at a reduced cost, usually 50-70 percent of the original retail value. Habitat CFC's ReStore opened in Stratford in 2004 and now covers 45,000 square feet of retail space. All proceeds go toward building homes in Fairfield County. We are currently able to fund the building of 3 additional new Habitat CFC homes each year! read more
