Greetings!
Though I am no expert on climate change, few would argue that the ferocity of this year’s hurricane season seems unprecedented and the devastation now confronting the people of Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands is nothing short of horrendous. Among the most heartbreaking impacts has been the complete loss of thousands of homes.
When we are challenged by a terrible event - any combination of anguish, sorrow or despair - we retreat to the safety, stability, warmth and security of our homes. Homes shield us from the effects of the outside world and enable us to temporarily escape from the discomfort and dangers beyond the doors, windows and walls that protect us. Imagine confronting the winds and floods of these unparalleled storms knowing that the sanctuary and refuge on which we might once have counted is no longer there.
Habitat for Humanity locally, nationally and internationally is driven by the conviction that every person needs and deserves a decent, stable place to call home. That conviction has never been more important. In the coming months and years we will all be called upon to help – and that is exactly what we will do.
Thank you, as always, for your support,
