Habitat Happenings | September 2018
Hello from our Executive Director
Dear Friend of Habitat,

September has been quite the month so far at Habitat Lakeside. After the long Labor Day Weekend, we came back to flooding in our ReStore. Water entered about 10 feet into the building all along the south side where our main entrance is. We are still working to recover completely from this incident, and unfortunately, our insurance coverage does not include street flooding. Please consider making a donation in any amount to help with the unexpected repair costs and lost income from the ReStore being closed for a normal business day: DONATE HERE (any amount helps).

As we move forward from the flooding, we do have many other things to look forward to this month and beyond. We have two new homes we will be breaking ground on this fall - one in early October and one in late October. Both families who will own these homes will soon visit our office for their pre-construction meetings, and Candy (Family Services) & Jon (Construction) couldn't be more excited to move these families one step closer to homeownership.

Our new Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator, Emily (read about her below) is helping revamp our volunteer recruitment efforts in the ReStore where we currently have a great need for more individual volunteers every day that we're open. Emily is also working closely with me to plan a Faith Relations Breakfast on September 27 and is working with a committee of fabulous volunteers to plan our 25th Anniversary "Tooling Through the Twenties" Gala on November 3.

Lauren, our AmeriCorps VISTA, is planning her final event with us before she finishes up her service year in November. She's working on our 3rd Rock the Block event in partnership with the City of Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Police Department. We are looking to recruit 50+ volunteers for this event which will take place on October 13.

Information on all of these activities and events are outlined below. As we move deeper into fall, I hope to see many of you out volunteering or at one of our upcoming events.

Thank you for all that you do to make our mission possible!

Sincerely,

Sarah Beckman

Meet our new Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator
Hello everyone! My name is Emily Nuernberg and I am the new Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity Lakeside. I look forward to working with those who dedicate their time to help make our mission possible!

I joined Habitat Lakeside with a background in event planning. While I was at college I joined a sorority that provided me with leadership opportunities in planning events for our philanthropy. This ultimately helped me decide that I wanted to pursue a career with an organization where I knew I was making a difference in the lives of others. I've planned various types of events for non-profit organizations, including walking events, snowmobiling events, and bike tours and have traveled from one end of the state to the other to do so. What I've learned quickly from these events is that volunteers are crucial to making our events and most importantly, our Mission, possible. In the short time that I've been here I've already been able to observe the passion that some of our volunteers and staff have for our Mission, and I'm excited to share that passion with all of you as we work together.

My interests outside of work include spending time outdoors, playing board games and being able to share my creative side with others. I am excited to start this new chapter and work for an organization where I know I'm making a difference in the lives of others!

If you want to reach out to say hi, feel free to email me at enuernberg@habitatlakeside.com or call me at 920-458-3399 ext. 303.
Habitat for Humanity Lakeside is hosting a Faith Relations Breakfast for the faith community in Sheboygan County. If you represent your church in a paid role or in a volunteer role, please consider joining us for breakfast on Thursday, September 27 from 8:00-9:30am at First United Lutheran Church (2401 Kohler Memorial Dr, Sheboygan). Network with your peers and learn about Habitat for Humanity Lakeside.

At the breakfast, we will share information about our mission and history. We will also talk about the application process for our housing programs (Home Buyer & Home Repair) so that you have an understanding of what it takes to qualify for a new home or a repair project. We will also talk about how your church can volunteer or fundraise for our mission as we look to kick off a Faith Build month in the spring of 2019.

Breakfast is sponsored by a Thrivent Financial Action Team so there is no cost to attend. We do request an RSVP so that we can make sure there is enough food.

You can RSVP or ask questions about this event by reaching out to Emily at 920-458-3399 ext. 303 or enuernberg@habitatlakeside.com.

You can click the "Faith Relations Breakfast Facebook Event" button below to subscribe to event updates as the breakfast approaches.

Volunteers Are Needed in our ReStore
Individual volunteers are needed for various shifts and activities in our ReStore. You can sign-up to volunteer once per week, multiple days per week, once per month or once per year. Shifts can be as short as 2 hours and as long as 8 hours.

Our ReStore is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00am-6:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am-4:00pm. We need volunteers each day that we are open. Our greatest need right now is to recruit more volunteers to help in the afternoons and for closing.

Volunteer activities can include any of the following:
-Riding along on the ReStore truck to assist in loading donations
-Cleaning, pricing and merchandising new donations
-Helping with our metal recycling program
-Testing and repairing donations
-Organizing and cleaning the sales floor
-Greeting customers and helping them navigate the store
-Learning to run the cash register

If you know anyone looking for a regular volunteer opportunity, suggest the ReStore to them. Anyone interested in learning about volunteering in the ReStore can contact Emily at 920-458-3399 ext. 303 or enuernberg@habitatlakeside.com to set up a time for an overview and tour.
