Announcement!
The talent for our annual fall fundraiser has been secured, and we couldn't be more excited to share the good news with you! On Friday, November 3, please join us for our "Country Road Take Me Home" fundraising event featuring John Michael Montgomery

Since the days when "Life's A Dance" turned him from an unknown artist into a national star, John Michael’s rich baritone has carried that most important of assets - believability. Few artists in any genre sing with more heart than this handsome Kentucky-born artist.

It is readily apparent in love songs that have helped set the standard for a generation. Songs like “I Swear,” “I Love the Way You Love Me” and “I Can Love You Like That” still resonate across the landscape. It is apparent in the 2004 hit “Letters From Home,” one of the most moving tributes to the connection between soldiers and their families ever recorded, and in “The Little Girl,” a tale of redemption that plumbs both the harrowing and the uplifting. It is apparent even in the pure fun that has always found its way into John Michael's repertoire - songs like “Be My Baby Tonight” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident),” where John Michael's vocal earnestness takes musical whimsy to another level.

John Michael Montgomery has sold 16 million albums, with 15 number one singles. He has won 4 ACM Awards, 3 CMA's, 1 AMA and 4 Billboard Awards. He has had 2 Grammy nominations and was also voted Artist of the Year by American Songwriter Magazine.

Losses and Gains

I’ve had to deal with a great deal of loss in the last month.

First, I lost my mother on February 11th.  Losing the daily, loving presence of someone as important and significant as a mother, is not easy.  I keep wanting to pick up the phone and hear her voice and the excitement she always showed when I called.

Next, I, along with the staff and board, have had to say good-bye to a 50,000 square foot building in Mt. Clemens that served us so well as a ReStore and “revenue-generator” for our mission at Macomb Habitat for Humanity.  Even though the building was situated in an industrial area – not ideal for retail, the walls and rooms were filled with so many memories and good times.

Volunteer Opportunities

Watch for continuing efforts as we prepare the new ReStore in Shelby Township. Still a number of interior projects from trim work to painting to assembling fixtures. We will be resuming work on homes in May.

Got spring fever and can't wait to get outdoors? Take part in the 5K Run for Shelter on Saturday morning, May 13th at Stoney Creek Metropark. Bring some friends with you! You could also be one of 20 volunteers we will need to run the event, from flagging the trail to manning water stations to registration. Sign up on the Volunteer Hub and we will be in touch.

Ted's Tip: Clean and Adjust Ceiling Fans

As summer approaches it’s time to clean your fans!

Use a vacuum to remove dust from both fan blades and the motor housing.

Remember in the winter season it’s best to reverse van blowing warm air up to circulate warmth evenly ,and during the summer season blowing air downwards for comfort.

Volunteer Spotlight
Ken Koster first started volunteering with Macomb Habitat in January, 2013 and has since been a great construction volunteer across the county. He has been a significant help on 11 different new builds, 15 rehabs of existing homes, and Brush with Kindness exterior repairs in five cities. In all, he has been there for 63 different volunteer days, restoring and enhancing neighborhoods in ten communities. Quick with a smile and any number of tools, he is ready to tackle all kinds of challenges. When you next meet him, thank him and ask him about his other volunteer activities, such as the new effort in Macomb County to refurbish donated bicycles this winter for use by kids without bikes this next summer.
