Blog: I Say A Little Prayer For You
I’m probably dating myself, but I can’t get this song out of my mind. It was sung by Dionne Warwick and it seems relevant to Macomb Habitat!

Do you remember the words?
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you...
In The News...
Macomb Habitat seeks applicants for two homes in Warren
Macomb County Habitat for Humanity had a busy year that included moving its retail store and wrapping up a series of homes in Eastpointe and Clinton Township. Now that a new year has started the group is focused on finding two eligible families, who need a home in Warren.
Interview: Millennial Enrolled in our Homeownership Program
One of the most common misconceptions about Habitat for Humanity is that you must have a family with children to be accepted into our program. Actually, this is a great program for first-time home-buyers... especially millennials who are just starting their careers. We interviewed a gentleman, who wishes to remain anonymous, but is a single man from the millennial generation who is currently enrolled in our Homeownership Program at Macomb Habitat. He had his own set of challenges but is overcoming them one by one and is learning a lot about himself in the process.
Macomb Habitat Homeowner Applications NOW OPEN!
Applications for Macomb Habitat's homeowner program are open! The houses available are primarily located in Warren, and we will have a couple options in Clinton Township mid-year. Seven homeowner partners will be selected from those that apply.

Meeting the Family Selection Criteria enables you to submit an application to our program and in no way ensures your acceptance into our program.

Criteria:
1. Ability to Pay – legal verifiable income that falls within income range (see chart below).
2. Need – proof of living in some type of substandard housing (see housing need assessment form enclosed in the homeowner application).
3. Willingness to Partner – each adult in the home must complete a minimum of 250 volunteer hours, and save a $1,000 down payment over the course of the homeowner program.
4. We are now offering only “low interest” mortgages and a credit score of 600 or higher is now required to qualify for application. A credit score of 640 or higher will be required to close on a home. Not sure what your credit score is? Check it on Credit Karma for free!

For a full list of criteria, click on the Family Selection Criteria link below:
Ability to Pay Guidelines:
If you meet ALL criteria, proceed with the Homeowner Application below.

ReStore News: New ReStore Manager!
Macomb Habitat is excited to announce the promotion of our former Assistant ReStore Manager, Cassandra Patrick. Cassie has been working for Macomb Habitat since May of 2016 and has spent a majority of her time as the Assistant Manager at the Warren ReStore. She was recently promoted to ReStore Manager and now has a new office space in the Shelby Township ReStore.

Cassie is a Wayne State University graduate with a background in social work. She is very involved in her community with a history of volunteerism with Gleaners Community Food Bank and Capuchin Food Kitchen. She has also been a volunteer basketball coach at Carlson Middle School and Macomb Community College.

Cassie is full of energy and has many ideas to advance our ReStores. Please join us in congratulating Cassie! We wish her much success in her new role as she takes our ReStores to the next level!
Volunteer Spotlight
Tom Thompson is a regular volunteer on our construction sites. Tom is a licensed contractor who especially enjoys installing kitchens! He has been volunteering with various Habitat affiliates for over 36 years. He participates in many church related projects state-wide and leads a group named "The Habituals" who love to help wherever needed. Lately, the Habituals have been spending time in Detroit working on the Tiny House Project. On behalf of the Construction Department and the Macomb Habitat staff, thank you Tom for organizing so many teams, bringing your knowledge and leadership on site, and doing whatever is needed. We appreciate you so much! Congratulations to Tom on being selected as our Volunteer of the Month!
SpartanNash Scan Program Returns February 7 - 18!
During the retail fundraising campaign taking place at Valu Land ( located at 13 Mile & Schoenherr ), store guests can donate $1, $5 or $10 – and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Macomb County Habitat for Humanity. We hope you will consider visiting this store before Sunday, February 18 to support us!
Direct Thrivent Choice Dollars by March 31!
Thrivent Financial benefit members accrue “Thrivent Choice” dollars based on insurance premiums, contract values and Thrivent volunteer leadership, which can be directed to churches, schools and other nonprofits of the donor’s choice. Eligible Thrivent Financial members who have available Choice Dollars® have until March 31, 2018, to direct them (otherwise, Thrivent decides where they go). Don’t miss this opportunity to recommend that Thrivent Financial provide outreach funding to Macomb County Habitat for Humanity. Call 800-847-4836 and say “Thrivent Choice” after the prompt. Every little bit helps! 78 cents of every $1 raised goes directly to our programming as we help families in need of a hand up!
Hire our Deconstruction Team!
If you are getting ready to remodel your kitchen or bathroom, consider hiring our Deconstruction Team to come out to your house and remove the cabinets, appliances, vanities, sinks, flooring, etc. at an affordable cost!

Our team is able to recycle the materials by taking them to our ReStores and re-selling the product.

For more information or to schedule your decon project, contact Sarais Jackson at 586.263.1540 x118.
Time to Plan Summer Travel with Habitat!
Care to take your Habitat interest to another country? Thrivent Builds Worldwide coordinates volunteer trips around the world, and Dave Tirsell is leading teams of 12 volunteers this year to Romania June 15-23 and the Dominican Republic Aug. 25-Sept. 2nd. Dave has built with Habitat in 14 countries over 16 trips. Fees for the trips (Romania - $845 for Thrivent members / $1345 for non-members; and Dominican Republic - $1050/$1400) covers all land costs – transportation, meals, lodging, cultural activities plus funds for the affiliate there to build. A deposit of $350 holds your spot on the team, the rest due six weeks before the trip. Team members assist the local construction team and masons on the next task to build the home, no experience necessary. Best for ages 18 and up. Airfare is extra. These are all great opportunities to discover another culture while physically helping a family build their home. Interested? Contact Dave at dctirsell2102@yahoo.com to express your interest and talk through your questions.
