Thank you Volunteers!

As our 2011/2012 building season comes to a close with The Logan Home (House 86) being dedicated later this month, I want to extend a very heartfelt "Thank You!" to the hundreds of volunteers who helped make home ownership a reality for the Snow, Harris, and Logan families. If you served on a steering committee, made a meal, helped with a fundraiser, swung a hammer, or dug with a shovel (along with a myriad of other things), you have made a significant difference in the lives of our Habitat families. Thank you so very much.

In looking forward to the 2012/2013 building season, we have the tremendous opportunity to come alongside new Habitat homeowners as we build 4 new homes as well as begin our new 'A Brush With Kindness' program. We will be seeking to again mobilize hundreds of volunteers from the Sangamon County community, churches, organizations, and businesses.

So again, thank you for your time, skills, resources, and most of all your heart for service. You have made a difference!

Sincerely,

Ryan Mobley, volunteer manager

A Brush With Kindness Program

Habitat prepares to launch new program

Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County is preparing to launch a new program in 2012, A Brush With Kindness (ABWK).

Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness is a nation-wide program serving low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes.

Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness uses volunteers, donated materials and no-interest loans to make repairs on homes, helping low-income homeowners continue to live independently and securely in their homes.

Additional information, volunteer opportunities and homeowner applications will be available Spring 2012.

VOX - Volunteer Orientation eXperience
Register Now

VOXAll new Habitat volunteers need to attend an orientation class prior to volunteering with Habitat. If you are an interested individual volunteer, classes are offered twice a month - once on a Wednesday evening, and at a new time once a month on Wednesday during a lunch hour (a "brown bag" option).

To view the schedule and to register, CLICK HERE.

If you represent a church, community organization, or business and would like to organize a group build day(s), our volunteer manager, Ryan Mobley, is available to come on-site to lead the VOX class. It's a great opportunity for team building and to make a difference in the community as a group.

Please contact Ryan at volunteer@habitatsangamon.com with any questions or to schedule an on-site VOX.

Recycle your electronics at Habitat ReStore
Free Electronics Recycling

electronics

As of January 1, 2012, there is a landfill ban on all electronic devices in Illinois. The Electronic Waste Recycling & Reuse Act, Public Act 097-0287, prevents the disposal of electronic devices in landfills, as of January 1, 2012.

Habitat ReStore is offering free electronics recycling to individuals and businesses as a convenient option for recycling old electronics and complying with the legislation.

Items can be dropped off at the Habitat ReStore, Monday - Friday 10am - 6pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm.

Old televisions, monitors, computers, VCRs, and basically anything with a cord, is accepted.  Computer information is completely erased, with the same technology that the military uses to destroy computer hard drives.
