2016 Halftime Report

Greetings!

Volatility returned to end the second quarter of 2016 as the people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. This unexpected news caused global equity markets to fall. Days later, the markets began a recovery that allowed U.S. markets to remain positive year-to-date. Oil also had a dramatic recovery in the 2nd quarter rallying from a low in the high $20’s per barrel to around $50 by quarter end.

American Funds Receives an "A"

Morningstar gives American Funds an "A" for its Stewardship Grade.

Capital Group and its subsidiaries, including American Funds, remain among the industry's strongest stewards of investors' capital. The firm boasts experienced and long-tenured investment teams, which have the incentives in place to do right by investors, as well as funds with generally strong long-term track records that are offered at attractive prices. The firm readily earns its Positive Parent rating.

A recent court case ruled that the death of a taxpayer's ex-spouse prior to the start of his pension caused the portion of his pension benefit that had been awarded to her during their divorce to revert back to him. (Anthony Cingrani Jr. v. Sheet Metal Workers' Local No. 73 Pension Fund)
