Carlos, 84, and his brother, Fred, 82, learned the ways of making outlawed corn liquor from their father, Virgil Lovell. Like farming and raising Angus cattle, homemade spirits have been a way of life for the Habersham County family for some 150 years.

Carlos has sold Moonshine and he's sold land. Guess which one earned him the most friends
one sip, and you'll be glad Carlos went from developing property back to developing friends..
Lovell Bros. Georgia Sour Mash Whiskey
Illegal Liquor has been romanticized in pop culture today. There's the 1950s moonshine-running movie 'Thunder Road" and the white lighting legendary fast car to NASCAR connection. But the history of corn liquor is closer to folk traditions like canning and curing country hams.
For over 150 years, the Lovell family has been perfecting Ivy Mountain distilled spirits. They shut down their bootleg operation in the 1960s, but in 2012, Carlos decided to get back into the distilling business (legally, this time) and created Ivy Mountain Distillery with his daughter Carlene. As Master Distiller, Carlos is a true virtuoso. He simply knows when the rare Hickory Cane corn is ready for fermentation and how to distill Georgia's finest corn whiskey.
Join us Friday September 27 from 3pm - 5pm at our Greenville Ave location (5757 Greenville Ave) as we welcome legendary Georgia bootleggers Carlos and Fred Lovell. The Lovell Brothers along with Charlene Holder -Proprietor and Carlos' daughter, will showcase Lovell Bros. Sour Mash Whiskies from Georgia's newest distillery Ivy Mountain. Last of the old time Georgia moonshiners, Carlos and Fred will lead a tasting and talk about the bootlegging, making white lighting and the highly celebrated moonshine days..
