WHO ARE YOU?

You can help Hands On Charlotte enhance the usefulness of our data by updating your own volunteer profile on the HOC web site. As an incentive, we will enter the names of all the individual volunteers who update their personal information into a drawing to win a US Airways gift card worth $250! Three cards will be awarded, but you have to update your data by November 10 to be included in the drawing. NOTE: We especially need you to enter your demographic information (if you haven't already) and to check off any skills that you have from the list provided on the web site.

If you need a refresher course in how to update your volunteer information on the HOC web site, CLICK HERE.

BLUE MAX GOES BIG WITH HOC

Blue Max logoBlue Max Materials, who has been providing quality landscape and hardscape products to professional contractors and homeowners throughout the Charlotte area since 1997, has agreed to serve as sponsor of Hands On Charlotte's BIG Project for the next year. As program sponsor of the BIG Project, Blue Max will supply HOC with donated or discounted products-things like mulch, garden soil, gravel, etc.-that we often need for our beautification projects at CMS schools. Thanks to Blue Max for supporting HOC and our community!
SPEAKING OF THE BIG PROJECT...

BIG Project logo
HOC's final BIG Project for 2010 on Saturday, November 20, will be a special undertaking, as our volunteers will be working at Hawthorne High School to create a peace garden. Tiffany Wright, a teenager who was shot and killed at her bus stop in September 2009, was a student at Hawthorne. Her fellow students came up with the idea to create the peace garden in response to her tragic death, and to remember other Hawthorne and CMS students who have been killed. HOC is pleased to be able to help that garden finally become a reality. You can sign up to participate in the BIG Project through the HOC web site; families and groups are welcome (minimum age is 10, maximum group size is 20). To sign up for the BIG Project, CLICK HERE.
LOVE A PARADE?

Did you know that Charlotte is the home to the country's fourth-largest Thanksgiving Day parade? It's true! The 63rd annual Belk Carolinas' Carrousel Parade features marching bands, floats, local celebrities, and plenty of family fun. Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving Day from 8am until 1pm to serve in the staging area to make sure the bands and floats are in the correct order, and as marshals along the parade route from N. Tryon Street to E. 3rd Street to make sure the performers stay on schedule.

FIRST NIGHT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

First Night Charlotte logoYou can help Charlotte ring in the New Year by volunteering at First Night Charlotte on Friday, Dec. 31. First Night is a family-friendly (alcohol-free) event that showcases the visual and performing arts at venues in the Center City. There's a People's Parade and, of course, a countdown to midnight! Attendees purchase buttons to enter the performance venues, and volunteers are needed to sell buttons, hand out programs, help with kids' activities, attend to the performance areas and answer questions. There are afternoon and evening shifts available. This is the third year at which HOC is helping to supply volunteers for First Night, and it's always a lot of fun. COMMUNITY GRAPEVINE

If you are interested in helping out, please contact the individual listed in the description. Hands On Charlotte assumes no responsibility for these activities.
