Welcome back everyone!  Hope all of your kids had a great first week.

The PTO has already been hard at work getting ready for upcoming fall events.  Coming soon is the "Back to School Picnic" where families can just come, bring blankets and relax on the school grounds.  It's a great community event and a chance to catch up with friends and also meet new families. More information is coming home soon. We hope to see you all there.

From the Front Office
Dear Hanmer Families,

We had a wonderful opening to the 2015-2016 school year!  The entire Hanmer staff is excited about the year ahead and we all look forward to working with your children again.  I'm busy visiting classes and it's fantastic to see students actively engaged in learning and getting to know their teachers and classmates.

Once again, as we begin the year, I'd like to encourage all parents to take advantage of the various ways to become an active member of the Hanmer community.  If you haven't joined the PTO yet, please do!  Our PTO is made up of an amazing group of dedicated volunteers who do so much for our school.  Even if you can't make our monthly meetings or you don't have time to chair an event, there are many ways to contribute your ideas and support!

As always, if you have any ideas or concerns to share as we move through the year, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I can be reached by phone (860-571-8370) or email [email protected] or you can come in to school to see me.  All students benefit from a strong home-school connection and I look forward to working with you again this year.
Thanks,
Margaret Zacchei
Principal

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL INSTRUCTIONS

Student Drop-Off
Parents who are dropping students off to school are asked to pull up to the curb just before the building on Rosedale St.  A staff member is on duty there in the mornings to greet students and monitor safety.  Parents can then turn left and exit through the parking lot onto Garden St.  Please do not have students get out of the car in the parking lot and cross through the bus line.

Walker Dismissal
If you're waiting outside for a kindergarten or first grade student, please wait to the left of the front doors on Francis St.  This will make it easier for teachers and students to find the adults who are picking them up and will improve our dismissal process

A Note From the Nurse

Welcome back!

Your child's good health is basic to a sound education. The purpose of our school health program is to maintain, improve and promote the health of your school age child.
Ways to promote a healthy environment for students and staff include keeping your child home if an elevated temperature is present.  His or her temperature should be normal for 24 hours prior to sending them back to school. Students should not return to school for 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhea stops.

Donations -I am in need of a few items for the health room.  Nut free snacks and saltines are always in need.  I also need cough drops for minor colds and sore throats.  Also, if you have any gently used sweatpants or elastic waist pants, especially in smaller sizes, I would be very grateful!

Sixth grade parents -you should have scheduled your child's physical for entry into seventh grade by now.  The physical should be completed during the sixth grade year.  If you have not, time is running out!
