TIP #5:
INCREASE LIGHT LEVEL Eyesight changes with age, so it's necessary to increase or modify lighting for improved task performance and to avoid shadows. This is especially important around stairs. for someone with Alzheimer's, be sure to provide adequate window treatment to prevent agitation and illusions that come with night time reflections. |

'Tis the Season...........
The holiday season is a time when we reflect on the past year and are thankful for family, friends and the good fortune we have received. This year, more than ever, there are many people who view this as a season of increased stress, and look forward to a kinder, gentler year in 2012.
Your friends at Myra L. Katz & Associates and Aging-In-Place Home Solutions believe it is important to share with those who are less fortunate. In this spirit, a donation has been made in your honor to the Alzheimer's Association, Operation Foodsearch and Forest Park Forever. Investing in Quality Furnishings Pays Off
By Myra Katz, December 2011
We've just completed updating Suburban OB-GYN's Waiting Room at Missouri Baptist Medical Center....one of the many. Working at Famous Barr Commercial Interiors right out of college, I was introduced to one of my first clients, Jacob Klein, MD, who was launching his private practice. He was excited, had his own sense of style, as well as progressive ideas of what would create the optimum OB-GYN environment for his patients. They worked then....and I'm proud to say they still do. A leader in his profession and women's healthcare, he changed the stereotypical cold, impersonal and insensitive doctor's visit by adding wardrobe units in exam rooms, cloth gowns and heat lamps over the tables...to mention a few. His practice and reputation continued to build while other physicians followed his lead.

For his first Waiting Room, Dr. Klein purchased the classic stainless steel England Chair, manufactured impeccably by Stow Davis, and a piece that holds a place in the Museum of Modern Art. I've learned a lot from Jack over the years, handling his design needs from Private Office to Exam Room to Waiting Room, moves and renovations with each new lease he signed. These chairs have been reupholstered at least 5 times, taking on a new life with each fabric selection. It just demonstrates the benefits of investing in quality, classic furnishings. |
