Happy Fourth of July: June + 3 Days Newsletter

Happy Fourth of July from Washington, D.C!
Living in our Nation’s Capital around this time of year is quite exciting. If my math is right, this will be our 242
nd Independence Day as a country. As citizens and followers of Jesus, it’s not conflicting at all to say that we’re legitimately thankful to be born and raised here in the U.S. Every day here, we interact with men and women whose professional lives depend on their commitment to keeping our country safe and secure. We thank God for their work. Yet, those in the faith know there’s a higher calling than their successful professional lives and even love of country: “…
the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Knowing and loving God fills us with gratitude this week. We’re so thankful to belong to Jesus Christ and to be participating in his good work in the Capital.

Spy Museum
We moved into the
International Spy Museum on July 1, 2018. This is a central, visible, well-known, and
easily accessible location. Three metro (subway) rails from different corners of the city converge on the station nearest to this meeting location. We’re filled with excitement and faith for how the Lord will use us in this space to touch hearts in D.C. We have many stories already and received this space on an 80% weekly discount. In addition, the management discounts to those attending/members at King’s Church who would desire to do the museum afterwards.

75 Workers Here
We are in the middle of a very busy time in the life of our church. We have over 75 short-term workers here from North Carolina (
Richland Creek,
Calvary Baptist) and Florida (
Camp Worldlight) serving our city in a variety of ways. We’re so thankful for them and what they’re doing to support our efforts here in the city.

Metrics
On the other metrics, we’re growing, we’re excited, we’re seeing people come to faith in Christ. We have very good attendance on Sunday, and we’re underfunded. We’re so encouraged (emboldened, heartened, reassured) and are pressing on in the good work God himself has called us towards. There are not enough churches or laborers here in D.C. for the
population growth (nor the complex needs). Please pray for the continued work of the Holy Spirit in awakening peoples hearts to Jesus Christ and his Church. God is at work!

Abraham Lincoln's Church
In May and June, we had the honor of having our church services in the historic
New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. MLK and many U.S. presidents here attended. Abraham Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation was heavily influenced by the then-pastors teaching from the Bible on the dignity of all human life. Lincoln’s pew and some original writings are housed here.

New Preachers of the Gospel
One of our members, a successful
Capitol Hill neighborhood gym & swim program entrepreneur and Navy veteran gave his first ever sermon on Spiritual Fitness from 1 Timothy 4:8.

Exploring New Partnerships
We're beginning to think of ways to collaborate and partner with two organizations:
Invisible Girl Project (a non-profit faith-based group committed to ending Gendercide in India) and
Hope to the Hill (a ministry to elected officials & staffs in congress). Please pray for these ministries.

Growing And New Bible Studies
Our Capitol Hill neighborhood
Bible study continues to grow. We’re prayerfully in the process of starting Bible studies in Shaw, Hyattsville, and Pentagon City. These times of fellowship have been really good and we are looking to expand our footprint in the city.

We Have Some Great People
We have other emerging ministries, but we are
seriously thankful for the ministries of our church members to one another. It’s so refreshing to have a church that likes each other. This is our most frequent compliment from visitors ("you have an amazing team").

Cairo, Egypt
We are planning our first international vision and outreach trip to
Cairo, Egypt in the fall. Please pray for us as the plan is to take a small team to do some exploratory work, partner building, and teaching.

Ministry Has Been Non-Stop
So much of ministry is difficult to put in a newsletter. How do you capture "
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you" (1 Peter 4:14) in a newsletter? How can I possibly explain all the conversations, counsel, surprises, learning, and works of mercy being done in the name of Jesus? Please keep us in your prayers "
apart from him we can do nothing." (John 15:5)
