Youth Written Newsletter for October 2016
Happy Booktober from MTW!

We have had a busy month here at More Than Words! We are grateful for an opportunity to share with you all that's happened and all the ways we are growing as a business and in our lives. To continue to support us, we hope you will stop by one of our stores or join us for one of our community events! Keep up with all our happenings by following us below!

GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT
By Emily, MTW Alumni

Hi, my name is Emily and I am a MTW Alumni. When I found out about More Than Words I was 20, unemployed, on probation and pregnant. I really liked working there but I struggled with feeling unmotivated. I ended up quitting for a period of time but I remained in contact with the adult staff at MTW and eventually decided to reapply. I knew I needed to better my life for my son and I. While at MTW, I was able to advocate to get off probation earlier than expected. I also gained job skills which have helped me get a full time job. I am now the Assistant Manager at a local retail store. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t complete More Than Words and I’m grateful for all of the staff who have supported me!

SITE VISIT TO NECAT
By Jacob, MTW Partner
Fernando

Hi my name is Jacob and I am a Partner at MTW. My colleagues and I had the opportunity to visit NECAT (New England Center for Arts & Technology) during our Youth Development shift. We learned all about NECAT:  the roles of black caps versus orange caps, the different appliances used for cooking in quantity, and what it takes to graduate from the 16 week program. Afterward, the Chef and her team provided us with a delicious sample of two different versions of French appetizer called Pissaladière! My favorite part of this visit was how they shared that it is a vigorous program designed to get you ready for the fast-paced world of cooking.

MORE THAN WORDS ATTENDS BEPC EVENT
By Dirique, MTW Partner

Hi my name is Dirique and I am a Partner at MTW. Last month I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of MTW at the Boston Estate Planning Council’s Non-Profit Showcase. We were there as one of only three nonprofits aligned with BEPC throughout this year! As the MTW ambassador, I was able to educate people about our mission and model. I also used the opportunity to share with them the news that I finally finished my GED! It was a great opportunity for me to put into practice many of the networking and public speaking skills MTW has taught me. Thank you BEPC for welcoming both our books and our people!
