Hi all,

Proud Union Home Signs

It is with great excitement that the West De Pere Education Association invites other locals to join in their yard sign initiative to create a positive union presence in their neighborhoods.
With the help of Region 3, the WDPEA applied for a PR grant that created 100 Proud Union Home signs free of charge for the West De Pere EA, Shawano EA, and any other members interested in displaying a sign.
Region 3 has graciously offered to store a number of signs for people to pick-up at their office at 1136 N. Military Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303. Signs will be available Monday, April 24th for pick-up. Thank you to Region 3 and Weber Printing for the help and support with this initiative. Call the office at 800-472-5582 to reserve a sign.

What's YOUR Best Story?

Appleton East High School teacher and Region 3 member Corey Otis and Green Bay educator Stacy Mallette have been named recipients of awards presented by the Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Otis, an English language arts teacher, won WACTE's Pre-Service Educator Mentor Award. Mallette, who teaches at Dr. Rosa Minoka-Hill School in Green Bay, is a recipient of the Early Career Educator Award. Both were selected by faculty of Lawrence's teacher education program. Each Wisconsin college or university that belongs to WACTE was invited to select a recipient for each award.

The Mentor Award recognizes an outstanding educator who has demonstrated a sustained pattern of mentoring pre-service educators for at least five years. Otis, who has taught at East High School for 17 years, has been instrumental in shepherding nearly a dozen student teachers from Lawrence into the profession. Otis earned a bachelor's degree from UW-Madison and his teaching certification from Lawrence.

WEAC Survey, Focus Groups Begin this Week!
As part of our efforts to better engage educators with our union and provide opportunities for feedback, WEAC is launching two ways to connect this week.
NEA and WEAC are surveying a random sample of members to better understand how to maintain, strengthen and grow our membership. The survey will be sent to members via email and will be conducted online. Wisconsin's survey will field on Monday and will remain open for 2 weeks.  Surveys will be sent from Insights@nea.org under the following cover: National Education Surveys. The survey is a scientific, anonymous research tool.  Members' names and email addresses will not be sold or used for commercial purposes.  Responses gathered in the survey will not be tied back to members' names or email addresses.
WEAC Focus Groups
WEAC is conducting a series of focus groups of active teachers and Education Support Professionals beginning next week. The groups are designed to get perspectives on working in Wisconsin Public Schools, the education profession and our union. Invitations to participate were sent from City Research. Participation and responses are confidential.
Direct questions on either of these projects to Christina Brey, breyc@weac.org, 608.213.3497.

Summer Leadership Academy: July 24-26, Eau Claire
It's time to put together a team from your local to attend WEAC's Summer Leadership Academy. The event takes place July 24-26 in Eau Claire. This event is FREE and a great opportunity for you to sharpen your leadership skills. Plus, you'll leave the academy with a plan to strengthen your local association. ETF Discontinues Walk-In Appointments, Improves Customer Service

ETF recently discontinued its walk-in appointment service. Most members are choosing the many different convenient and easy ways to access information about their Wisconsin Retirement System benefits, instead of traveling to the agency's office in Madison.
The change means members must schedule an appointment in order to meet with a WRS benefits specialist. This allows the benefit specialist to complete a detailed review of the member's account in advance. Members receive personalized, confidential assistance. There is also decreased wait time for scheduled appointments.
Members can still drop off and pick up forms at the ETF office, 801 W. Badger Road in Madison.

If your spring break plans include renting a car, you'll want to make sure you're covered. At Member Benefits, we get a lot of questions this time of year from members who are wondering about the insurance coverage on a car they're renting for their upcoming vacation.
