Gearing up for the winter already. Did you know fall is my favorite time of year? I just love the slowing down of pace with the cooling temperature.

I bet you have lots to do, so this issue is mostly photos and little reading. Take a few moments to browse with me through last month at Byrdcall Studio.

Solo Art Exhibition:

Byrdcall at Birdie's Cafe Coffee House

There is still time to stop by to see the 40 pieces of (mostly) framed artwork on the walls of Birdies. The exhibit will come down on Nov.2. Special thanks to Susan Williamson who kindly helped me hang this exhibition.

Most of my work is in the front room with window facing Main Street.

And along this teal wall on the staircase...

And more art in the third room over the third mantle. On opening day we sold the "Listening" on the top right. (Thanks, T&J)

Brook Trout in Dancing Colors hangs over the front room mantle. Beneath it is Brookie in Color linocut, one of the last of that edition.

"Through the Eye" hangs in the middle room over the fireplace.

It happened to be a perfect fit within the marbles glued to the wall.

In the front room, there is Earth messenger,

Monarchs and Milkweed, the Woolie and James Ranch.

On Opening Night I was a happy camper

surrounded by friends, old and new.

And Birdies has great coffee, and delicious (and healthy) food, so make a date with a friend and take a moment to relax around my artwork. (It's more fun than looking on the computer monitor.) Thanks.

JeannieBird Baking Company is getting closer to Grand Opening at

42 W. Main St. in Westminster

Last month I told you I was about to do art work for this NEW bakery opening business soon in the old Heinz Bakery building. Well here is the final linocut completed this week.

Their official logo was designed by their friend, a graphic designer named Michael Cain of Raising Cain Studio I used his image and carved it as my inner muse requested--playful and "baked in a pie." (Do you all know what a Pie Bird is? If not, google it!)

Opening day has not been announced yet, but you can bet that Main Street Westminster will never be the same once the JeannieBird aromas hit the street. Follow progress on their Facebook page.

The practice Rya Rug donated last month is doing its job

Remember last month I told you how a partially knotted rya was donated to the cause of "bringing back the dying art"?Twice this month I gave impromptu rya lessons at Birdies Cafe (Not to be confused with JeannieBird's Baking Company!) Four new rya lovers successfully tried their hands at the knotting process. And there is plenty more knotting to do.

Debi mastered the knotting with ease, as did Chris, Marge, and Angela.

and Angela visited Birdies on both demo days. I think she is "hooked."

This is what the pattern and photo of completed rya look like.

I'm wondering if I had "drop-in rya workshops" in my studio, would you be interested in stopping by to learn the process on this rug and to see the hundreds of design we could adapt to the various backings I now carry? It would be a fun way to get started. When I schedule classes again, I'll tell you here.

Monet's Bridge Rya is Being Knotted

For the past couple of months I've been sharing rya rug designing lessons on my blog page using this requested design as my focus. I am very happy to say that Bill and Emilie drove from NJ to Byrdcall Studio two weeks ago to pick up the supplies, design, and learn the techniques of knotting. Click here to see the story

Bill is knotting left-handed, and Emilie is a right-handed knotter. Theoretically they could sit side by side and knot.
