Recently, the McBride team hosted an open house for clients, trade partners, team members, and community representatives. The purpose of the event was to announce our name change to McBride Remodeling, and share details about our new seasonal property management services .

Murray elected chair of Mackinac Island Community Foundation. James J. Murray, managing partner of the Petoskey office of Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, was recently elected chair of the Mackinac Island Community Foundation Board of Trustees. As a member of the board for the past four years, Murray was serving as the Foundation’s Treasurer at the time of his election.
The Mackinac Island Community Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of residents and visitors of Mackinac Island.

The Petoskey Area Garden Club has been beautifying Petoskey for 85 years. Membership in this award-winning organization has grown to 107. Collaborating with the Department of Parks and Recreation, club members now plant and care for flower beds throughout the community. Join Petoskey District Library and Ethel Larsen on  Monday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Carnegie Building as she presents highlights from the club’s long history, and provides glimpses of all the gardens. All Friends @ the Carnegie programs are held at the Carnegie Building at 451 E. Mitchell Street, unless otherwise noted. The programs are offered at 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month, except December (no program). All Friends @ the Carnegie programs are open to the public and admission is free.

Wildwood Firearms Training & Range is holding a two-night basic Cpl class on September 5th and 6th from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. both nights. This is the required course you need to take to apply for a concealed pistol license. This class is taught in a relaxed and fun environment by our very own Brett Gooding. A retired Michigan state police sergeant. Bring your handgun, 50 rounds of ammo and ear/eye protection. You can also take advantage of our try before you buy option and get a free rental gun for the class that day. You just need to pay for the ammo that you use. The Katydid , in downtown Petoskey, has upcoming Mandala Rock Painting Classes. These are a fun activity to do with your kids, as well as relax and let your creative side flourish. The classes are instructed by a retired Kindergarten teacher, who is super engaging and informative. You can choose whether you want to paint a rock, trinket dish, or canvas. Char-Em United Way's 12th Annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive runs until Sunday, August 25th. Our goal is to make sure children in our community have the school supplies they need to start the new year. The distribution of school supplies to students in need will be coordinated with the Char-Em ISD. Drop-off locations are throughout Charlevoix and Emmet Counties, including Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, Sunglass Shoppe, Fletch's and the Petoskey District Library . Petoskey Department of Public Safety is hosting its 9th Annual Citizen Academy September 5th, 2019 - October 24th, 2019. Classes will be every Thursday night from 6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. This Citizen Academy is free and is designed to give the community a better knowledge of the Public Safety Department's operations and procedures. Participants will receive instruction in several areas including criminal law, interviewing and interrogation, fire operations, emergency medical services, and more. North Central Michigan College is introducing two exciting, new club athletic opportunities! This fall, the College is starting competitive running and ski teams providing students an opportunity to participate within an athletic team atmosphere. The co-ed club running team is open to both competitive and non-competitive runners who seek an opportunity to better themselves, and others, through establishing and working together towards athletic goals. All team members will have the opportunity to participate in several competitive cross-country or road races during the fall semester. A new website and social media campaign will encourage people to “Explore 131 North.” The website, explore131north.org , is part of an effort by several northern Michigan communities located along the US-131 highway to collaborate on tourism promotions, branding, and economic development in the hopes of bringing more visitors and business opportunities to the corridor. Explore 131 North is a grassroots initiative established in 2016 that is spearheaded by government and community leaders from several key communities along US-131, including Cadillac, Manton, Fife Lake, Kalkaska, Mancelona, Boyne Valley, Walloon Lake, and Petoskey. Early on, the group teamed up with the community development agency Networks Northwest for planning and facilitation assistance.
