Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce Newsletter
August 2017
President's Message:
Sitting here at the Chicago Midway Airport waiting for my flight has given me the time to reflect on the leadership conference I attended this week.

Reflecting on the take-a-ways from the conference my mind keeps going back to the following lessons:

Do more than belong: PARTICIPATE
Do more than Care: HELP
Do more than believe: PRACTICE
Do more than be fair: BE KIND
Do more than forgive: FORGET
Do more than dream: WORK

It takes all of us to make our Chamber of Commerce great on all levels. We all come from different backgrounds, have different views, and different types of businesses; but we always find a way to come together and care about our community and each other. I am proud to be part of the Chamber and serve for, and with all of you.

Patricia Green
Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce
President

Oct. 7- 30th Annual Eggplant Festival
Look at the Loomis Chamber and Rocklin Chamber teaming up to spread the news about two local events expected to bring thousands of people and hundreds of businesses to the Placer County area!
By: Jenny Knisley-Loomis Basin Chamber & Tiffany Neilson-Rocklin Chamber
It's exciting that the Loomis and Rocklin Chambers are teaming up to promote two traditional festivals: the Hot Chili Cool Cars and Loomis Eggplant Festival. Both events are a way for communities to come together in a friendly, family environment while showcasing our local businesses. The festivals offer entertainment, cooking contests, shopping, food and drink, arts and activities for all ages.
Returning this year to the Eggplant Festival is our “Back to the Basic” DIY demos where you will learn to prune trees and raise chickens; other demonstrations will also be held.
The Loomis Chamber will kick off our Eggplant Festival festivities with Purple Week starting Saturday, Sept. 30, when Loomis residents and merchants can get more involved. Local restaurants and shops will offer food and drink specials, sales and opportunities to win raffle prizes. The Loomis Merchants group will again hold the Build-an-Eggplant Contest with prizes; stop by their booth to pick up your game card.
Loomis is getting a downtown makeover with new sidewalks, streets and a self-guided tour of historic fruit crate labels and murals and tiles. The project should be completed in time for the Eggplant Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7. This year marks the festival's 30th anniversary, so it is a fitting time to complete a major public-works project that marries Loomis' past with its future. #loomiseggplantfestival.

The Rocklin Chamber’s Hot Chili & Cool Cars event is an annual favorite for residents, visitors, classic car enthusiasts and chili aficionados. Free to attend, the 24th annual event features the area’s coolest cars and fiercest chili cooks, all competing for bragging rights in the Classic Car show and Chili Cook-off. Downtown Rocklin is transformed from Rocklin Road to Midas, encompassing nearly 5 city blocks.
For a nominal fee, attendees are able to sample the chili in Chili Alley and are eligible to vote for their favorite recipe. Chili kit sales will officially open at 9:30am at the intersection of Rocklin Road and Pacific Street. Chili Alley opens for tastings at 10:00am.

A favorite part of the event for many is the sight of nearly 200 classic cars beautifully displayed for spectators to admire, each possessing it’s own charm and history.

Looking for ways to entertain the kids? Hot Chili & Cool Cars features plenty for them to do. Located at the main stage, youth groups will perform singing & dancing routines from 10:30am-12:30pm. The Kids Corner will be stocked with games, crafts and entertainment including bounce houses. Back by popular demand is our cake walk provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes and our annual coloring contest.

A special addition to this year’s lineup is a FREE concert featuring country/rock artist, Mark Mackay who will be entertaining crowds from 12:30-2:00pm at the main stage.

Hot Chili & Cool Cars is Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Pacific Street in downtown Rocklin. For more information, contact the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce at 624-2548 or www.rocklinchamber.com
