Commons Connections

December 2013

It is an honor to be writing this to you as the new President and CEO of Chicago Commons. It is a great privilege to lead this organization. There is no doubt that this is an exciting time for Commons as we begin a new chapter.

I look forward to sharing my vision for Chicago Commons in the coming weeks, and working with our board, donors and dedicated staff to enable Commons to grow and continue to effectively impact the communities we serve.

I encourage your involvement, welcome your ideas, and hope to reconnect with you Wednesday, February 12 at Bin 36 as we celebrate and kick-off 2014.

On behalf of our family at Chicago Commons, have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Edgar Ramirez

President and CEO

Chicago Christmas Tree Ship

For the seventh year, Ada S. McKinley Community Service, Inc. has partnered with the Christmas Tree Ship Committee to provide live Christmas trees to families in need through local community organizations. This is the fourth year that Chicago Commons has been fortunate enough to be one of the community organizations. We were able to provide 80 trees to families in our child development, adult education and senior care programs.

Operation Warm

Winter came early this year, and fortunately Operation Warm was able to provide 300 coats for us to distribute to families at our four child development centers. Operation Warm and their Coats for Kids Foundation provide new winter coats to children in need throughout the U.S. We are very grateful for their generosity!

 2013 Governor's Conference on Aging

This conference is hosted by the Illinois Department on Aging every December. It's the biggest, most comprehensive training event as well as the largest statewide meeting of senior care professionals.

Chicago Commons director of Home Care, Jennifer Moore (pictured on the top left), was a panelist in the session "A Day in the Life of a Home Care Provider." The panel explored caring for clients from a providers' perspective.
