Vice President's Address
Happy Holidays from My Family to Yours!

It's been a couple weeks since traveling to Nationals in Orlando, and as dust settles I look back and have much to be thankful for! It is with great honor that I am among so many educators striving for the same cause. On the top of my list are all the many people that teach me something new and brilliant every day. I'm speaking to you, our members, our colleagues, our friends and family. I am sending my most sincere gratitude to you for you work, effort, compassion, and commitment to making this world a better place! Together we make a difference, and I am grateful for the ability to be part of an organization that believes in that. So, thank you!

I am sharing and shedding light on all things important to me. I am beyond humbled to have had the opportunity to join our President, Jessica Sugrue, at the 2015 NAEYC Annual Expo and Conference. With other 10,000 of our colleagues from across the country and world, I was rejuvenated by being surrounded by like-minded individuals. I was empowered by the profession valuing teachers of young children whom are entrusted to give their best, do their best, and be their best, to care and teach our children today, striving for the very best future of tomorrow.

We would like to share some of our highlights from conference; we will see an impact in our work in the coming months.
  • On Wednesday November 17th we attended the Affiliate Leadership Day. During the conference Jess and I also participated in:
    • Technical Assistance on launching a successful Early Ed for President campaign (http://www.naeyc.org/policy/advocacy)
    • Videotaping for the $16 in 16 campaign
    • Networking with colleagues and potential sponsors for our work in the year ahead
    • Session on Market Research conducted about the early childhood professionals
    • Sessions on parent engagement, accreditation, social and emotional development and homelessness
I'm looking forward to taking time to reflect on all the things I'm learning, the ideas in which we're validating and moving forward as an organization. Next up, we will be solidifying the details for our Spring Conference in April of 2016 and opening up Early Bird Registration in January! The cold is approaching quickly, but Spring will be here before you know it, and we'll heat up with our Annual Conference! A great event to provide hours of professional development, community engagement and field moral !

Enclosing, take time to reflect in all things that mean something to you, thank a teacher for the work they are doing, give thanks to all around you, and remember to take care of yourself.

Happiest of Holidays, Enjoy and Rejoice!

Jessi Rice, Vice President & Conference Co-Chair
